In reference to the GA Dome, it's a bit strange that the Falcons actually have a game the 4th meaning all the SEC stuff has to be taken down and reset for a game the next day. The Falcons are away on the 11th meaning there would not be the required tear down from the SECCG if it took place on the 10th. Is this a conspiracy theory? Clearly, the Illuminati created Hurricane Matthew and set this entire scenario up!
And all the Atlanta hotels get an extra weekend with a major event. Moving the SECCG is a huge win-win for all concerned, IMO.

Why, exactly, if there isn't already an event scheduled in the Dome? The SEC has considered it before.
because it's a huge corporate event as well. it's not as simple as "oh, nothing else is happening at the GA Dome that week."
quote:
No one ever knows who's even going to be in the game until seven days before anyway. Making the decision in the next week or two to move the SECCG back a week wouldn't be an issue.
50% of that game is for corporate sponsors. The fans of the schools attending aren't what makes it difficult to reschedule. the SECCG game weekend is a massive event that includes more than just the game at the GA Dome

The whole conference shouldn't suffer the wait just because 2 selfish schools can't come to an agreement.
The whole conference should suffer just as much as LSU has to suffer. After all, why should LSU suffer at all? Florida is the one who cancelled their conference home game. Let them do all the suffering.

LSU will win an SEC title game

And they can easily reschedule with 6 weeks notice. This is a non issue.

They COULD. However, the GWCC (where FanFare is held) has an event taking place Buildings A&B. FanFare takes place in Building C. Obviously, the two events could take place simultaneously, but it would require added security between the two buildings to avoid crossover.

So the SEC negotiates the cost of added security and provide it.

But it isn't just the playoffs that are impacted. Every bowl game is set/announced that Sunday (12/4).
So, they will announce where Navy is going on December 4th, even though they have a regular season game on December 10th? That seems inefficient.
The first bowl game with an SEC tie-in is the Independence bowl on December 26th. The other games with tie-ins are:
Advocare Texas Bowl - 12/18
Birmingham Bowl - 12/29
Belk Bowl - 12/29
Liberty Bowl - 12/30
Music City Bowl - 12/30
Orange Bowl - 12/30
Citrus Bowl - 12/31
Tax Slayer Bowl - 12/31
FBS Semi-Final Games - 12/31
Outback Bowl - 1/2
Sugar Bowl - 1/2
FBS Championship Game - 1/9
So...one team would only have a little over 2 weeks to know that they are going to Shreeveport...

Do you move the SECCG to 7:00 where it goes head to head with the Heisman presentation on ESPN?
Hell, yes...you move it opposite the Heisman. What the hell do they have opposite the Heisman presentation now...ice dancing, or some crap like that? This way they don't concede the time slot to ABC/ESPN.

If UT loses this weekend they will be behind Florida in the standings. You think that won't have any impact?
LSU is a better team, but they have a much tougher task.

My other question still stands. What happens if a player in the SECCG is a Heisman finalist? What if Tennessee and LSU were playing in the SECCG that night and one of Dobbs/Kamara/Fournette was a Heisman finalist? Would you be ok with taking away their chance to be in NYC for the presentation and a possible win?

Florida running the table is slightly less improbable, but let's say for a minute that they do. While it would suck for UT to miss out on the SECCG as a result of the cancellation, it would actually probably better serve the league's chances of placing a team in the playoff. Let's say that the game get's played, UT goes 10-2 and makes it to Atlanta by LSU knocking off Florida. Let's also assume that it's an undefeated Bama that represents the West (just to take my Aggie out of it). If UT upsets Bama, who makes the CFP? Does UT get in with 2 losses? What if the only loss between Ohio State and Michigan is one losing to the other? Could you rule out Bama getting in over UT despite losing the SECCG (if Bama goes to Knoxville and stomps UT, but then loses in Atlanta in another pixy dust win for UT)? Of course, if UT happens to beat Bama this week, then that really does render the Florida half of this discussion moot, and then we are only concerned with LSU picking up one more loss.
