Playoff chairman Bill Hancock announced Tuesday that if Navy is in consideration, the committee will delay its announcements until after the Army-Navy game. It's the most sensible solution to this entire affair.

Navy-Army play on December 10th, which would also be the new date of the SEC title game if it was to be pushed back to accommodate a FL-LSU game on December 3rd. A non power team is guaranteed to get into the New Year's Six bowls. Right now Navy is sitting at 4-1 coming off upsetting Houston. There is a very real possibility they win the AAC and earn that bid.

Navy has some tough games coming up (USF, Memphis, Notre Dame), but it's something to think about. Another point, if Navy and Army get special treatment in this situation, why shouldn't the SEC regardless if Navy or Army isn't in the hunt? The committee has already set a precedent by making this a rule.

Why can't LSU and UF just play at 9am on Dec 3rd? This way they can make up the game and not interfere with SECCG schedule.

Actually a win win for everyone including this board.

I think they would take it into consideration if LSU or Florida were in the playoff conversation.

As it stands...

No. There is not a real chance of an imperfect navy team making the playoff.

I agree, but that is meaningless. They would be guaranteed a New Year Day bowl, which the committee picks.

Agree 100% and this is the most logical solution. LSU plays at Florida Dec 3rd, playoff teams are announced Dec 11. Nobody loses.

It would be ridiculous to push back the SECCG for a game that has no bearing on the outcome of the league title, and there is a distinct probability that would be the case--it would be a slight upset (not a huge surprise, just less likely than not) if it did have SEC title implications at this point.

You can't make these assumptions, especially when this game will be scheduled sometime in the next two weeks. Tennessee will probably have two losses after this weekend. Florida will be the the driving seat of the east going into the Georgia game, which isn't until the 29th.

If UT loses this weekend they will be behind Florida in the standings. You think that won't have any impact?

If so, true.

The big difference in that scenario is that the Army Navy game was set on that date from the onset of the season. Moving the SECCG would be an enormous financial and logistical undertaking, much more than rescheduling a game on an SEC campus. It's not going to happen

But it isn't just the playoffs that are impacted. Every bowl game is set/announced that Sunday (12/4). Even if LSU/UF wasn't for a spot in the SECCG, they would certainly be in play for the SEC bowl spots. Without knowing the outcome of that game, none of the SEC bowls could be announced for another week, and for a few of those games you would have less than three weeks to market/have teams and fans arrange travel. (SEC tie-in bowls begin on Wednesday 12/28).

Also, how would CBS handle the SECCG being pushed to the next week. They are contractually obligated to air both the SECCG and Army/Navy in prime timeslots. A/N is set for a 3:00 ET kickoff. Do you move the SECCG to 7:00 where it goes head to head with the Heisman presentation on ESPN? What happens if a player in the SECCG is a finalist for the Heisman?

If this game doesn't get played and has any impact on standings, then the fairest thing to do is make the champions' records be based on division winning percentages only.

Actually, it could be. I'm not saying that it will be. But there is some precedent for at least consideration. In 2005, the SEC ruled out pushing the game back and playing the LSU-Tennessee game on that date because the Georgia Dome was already booked with another event.

There is no event booked for the Georgia Dome on December 10.

Ga. Dome event calendar

This could be a win-win situation. TV revenue through the roof...huge media build up for the game. What's not to like?

Plus it would give Bama an extra bye week before playing

Why, exactly, if there isn't already an event scheduled in the Dome? The SEC has considered it before.
