Depends. If AU beats clemson, I dont see LSU beating Auburn.

What makes LSU a contender?

Guice is probably the 2nd best RB in the country (Saquon Barkley at PSU is an animal), I'll give them that.

But their QB is trash
Their OL is trash
Their WRs are average
They have depth behind Guice.
Their OC is more overhyped than Jeremy Johnson was.

Even with no real passing threat to worry about and a weak OL Guice is still good enough to make them look good enough against teams with weak defenses like Ole Miss or State. But the teams they play with a good defense like Bama or Auburn (aka real contenders) will have enough firepower to key on Guice and shut that shite down.

Their defense is good. Great pass rush with Key. Solid DBs. At least one good LB, although he still has to prove it. But it's definitely not the elite defenses that LSU used to have. Teams that can attack on the ground and in the air will pick them apart.

Guice and Key are elite players. But if they lose either one, especially Guice, their season will go to hell and fast. Either one of them goes down and this is a .500 team

Mark this down, they will he exposed as pretenders by the real contenders and Auburn and Bama will both blow LSU out. They will be utterly embarrassed by both school from Alabama.

tDecline is strong now and building momentum. The Ed Orgeron era will be reminiscent of the Gerry Dinardo era (without the lucky 10 win season because the West isn't down). 41-7 loss to AU in Tiger Stadium in Dinardo's last season will be similar to the game this season

Your analysis of LSU is off the wall funny. Man... are you going to be in for a rude awakening. I hate to tell you this but both our offense and our defense will be quite a bit better than last year and you guys will find out about it when LSU kicks your butts in in Tiger Stadium.

By the way, go watch Saquan Barkley's 2016 highlight film on youtube. He'd be a middling running back in the SEC and he also can't block for crap.

That is hilarious

It's likely not true

I will say that UF is underestimated and will be better than most think... OL will finally be a strength and we have some really unheralded tough runners (LSU remember Scarlett and Perrine?). Defense will be good. Special teams will be solid ++.

UGA is probably a year away with Eason...but our game in Jax will determine most likely who sits in front the TV the first Saturday in December. UT will drop this year and it will be Butch's undoing. USC & UK will surprise. Vandy will still be a tough nut. Mizz is a team that may score points...but give away more on defense.

The SEC is a grind and last year we were down six starters on defense by the sixth or seventh game. Its a war of attrition. It could affect division races.

LSU is a pretender how? I'm not saying we are going to win the CFB playoffs but besides Bama who has the most talent on their roster in the SEC. We have one of the best DC and no LSU fan is asking Canada to install a Oregon or TCU offense. All we want is the simple task of using our athletes same way Aranda did with our defense.

Everybody besides Alabama should be in the pretender category until we get proof otherwise.

He may prove me wrong but what are you basing this on? 3 games in the Big 12 and a Spring Game? 2 of those 3 games came against defenses ranked in the high 90's in overall defense and passing defense was even worse!!

Oh its true. Carl Dukes, John Fricke, Steak Shapiro, Nick Cellini, Matt Chernoff have all tried to make this argument.

Solid post from a UT fan!

I would list Uga as a contender. I believe the East will come down to the WLOCP and the Gators will win and return to Atlanta but UGa is a contender.

The year 2 bump has many examples. Acknowledging that isn't the same as predicting it.

Who isn't a pretender if Tennessee is? Nobody thinks they're gonna be good.

Etling doesn't have the talent of guys like Allen, Eason, etc., but he was middle of the pack in the SEC last year. He isn't horrible.

Our Oline is problematic in that depth is an issue. We have talent, mostly proven. Clapp is an ALL-SEC guy moving to center from guard. The tackles Malone (SR - gave up 3 sacks last year) and Weathersby have plenty experience. The guards will be new but Brumfield rotated in last year. If our starters stay healthy we will be okay there.

WRs Chark is awesome. The others have talent but unproven, we will see.

Guessing you meant *no depth behind Guice. No one at his level obviously, but Williams is decent, Brossette was a 2k rusher in HS, had an ACL (I think) in his FR year, should be totally healthy from that now. And true FR Clyde Edwards-Helaire is going to surprise in Canada's offense.

Canada is unproven in the SEC. But everywhere he has gone, he has improved the offense. Imagine LSU with an improved offense. Last year LSU lost 4. But 3 of those we were a play at the end from a win. With Canada calling plays last year, LSU is a 1-loss team playing in the NY6 with a case for playoff.
