He was one of the Junction Boys. If anyone is tough enough to get through this sort of thing, he is.

That would be awful if Sumlin's shitty coaching killed Gene Stallings.

Couldn't stand Gene while he was the UA coach, but after the fact seemed like a good guy. He also knew when to leave UAT unlike the current coach who has been there about 5 years too long.

when Bama came to CS our second year in SEC we were hanging out in MSC Flag room waching a couple of early games and Mr. Stallings came walking up in maroon blazer with another person from the side hall. A few of us recognized him immediately and walked over including an older couple from Bama. He took photos with each of us and was super friendly even though I'm sure his schedule was packed.

Such a gentle soul and polite man. Have that photo in our game room. A college football treasure.

I'm not one of those people who gets sensitive about this sort of thing -- dark and morbid humor have their places in this life. But Stallings deserves better from a TAMU fan. He's one of those coaches that even fans of rabidly hostile opposing fan bases tend to respect. He's one of the good 'uns.

Genuinely would have been a great mentor for all young men.

Or should I say, he has been a great mentor.

I was in school at UA in '92 and went to practice to watch a friend who was on the team. It was really lax even then in getting in practice and watching - he just put my name on a list.

So the d-linemen were doing a drill with the offensive linemen and 2 got into a little scuffle (more like a huge fight ). I'm standing ten feet from all this behind a little dinky rope and Stallings sees it and comes charging that way. He gets to the fight and they instantly quit and then rips the managers for not doing more to stop it - not what I was expecting to happen. I immediately knew I needed to check out and head home. This was more intensity than I wanted on a Tuesday afternoon in August. RTR

Get better Gene!
