Actually, PepsiCo concentrates delivery of Mountain Dew to any poor area. That's why Alabama is a favorite destination for the drink.

That's because Diane Sawyer, herself a native Kentuckian, did a story about how PepsiCo dumps their excess high caffeine, ergo highly acidic, drinks in poor areas. The story highlighted the salving effects that the high caffeine drinks seemed to have on the misery of being poor.
Again, Eastern Kentucky is not the only target of the beverage company. It was just the example Sawyer used to expose PepsiCo.
