Playoffs should expand to 5 teams. Yesterday was evidence of it.

Teams 4 and 5 use it as a play in to get the top 4
Then you proceed as normal.
Why 5 teams?
I think that after the top 5, the talent level is at such a drop off it's not necessary. Certainly an 8 team playoff is not needed.

No. Expand to 8. More conference games. Only play P5 teams. No conference championship.

There simply aren't 8 good enough teams to justify it IMO.

If the talent pool drops off then the #1-#3 seeds shouldn't have any issues winning their games. Given that, what is wrong with an 8 team playoff?
The NBA has 16 teams in their post season.

There's only one deserving team. Your answer is to add more?

Could Penn St or Wisconsin beat Ohio State?
Penn State did and Wisconsin almost did. They could compete in a playoff. Then Michigan and Oklahoma.
There would be a year where the 8 seed would win a game.

the debate over who gets into playoffs with 8 teams would be even more contentious. lol

If it ever goes to 8, and I hope it doesn't, all 5 power 5 champs will get a spot, and you'll have 3 at large bids which are plenty.

It needs to be expanded to 8 and remove a couple "cupcake" games out of the schedule. There's no need for Alabama to play Valdosta State.
Sure, a couple teams might sneak in that don't deserve it but at least we wouldn't have to hear the Boise St, TCU, or this year Western Michigan type of argument that they should be in. Let them in, let them get crushed, move on.
This year is evidence that it needs to be expanded.

i say have 6 teams in playoff, with top two receiving a bye in first round, to reward regular season result more.
all p5 conference title winners are a lock plus one at large team with the best record and SOS but no conference title. have the at large play the lowest ranked conferece winer
this year it would be.
Alabama - bye
Clemson - bye
Olkahoma vs Ohio State
Penn State vs Washington
Alabama vs lowest ranked winner of previous games
Clemson vs highest ranked winner of previous games

Not really. The #1 seed would destroy the #8 seed consistently. So no one would really be able to argue.

A bye in college is too big of an advantage. 6 teams is bad.

Is said every year, no matter the situation. People just want more teams. But more will never be enough

you'd be risking injury to players on the 1 seed in the name of winning a game that is most likely going to be won by 1 seed most of the time.

To me, the aim of the playoff should be to include all teams with a compelling, legitimate argument that they are there *best* team. You set the number of spots to the minimum member that ensures that, without diluting the playoff pool with teams that have no compelling or legitimate argument. To me, 4 is the absolute most you should have.

That's why we need 16 team super conferences, remove divisions, then let the top 2 play for the conference championship which is also round 1 of the 8 team playoff. This would require the Big 12 to break up.

its an earned advantage.
this bye format also ensures the at large team that didn't play in its conference title game doesn't benefit from that, it has to play an extra game in the playoffs prior to playing one of the top two teams.

It is too big of an advantage. It is unfair.

In the history of the playoff, we've already seen a team sneak into the 4 seed and win it all. The goal should be 8. Would be great.
I'd even love to see 1 and 2 seed get a home game. Can you imagine a playoff game at a college stadium?

so i guess all those title winners prior to playoff system won unfairly? :)
in my opinion, it is not really fair OSU got to rest a week and not risk injuries prior to the playoffs.
