Players may be FORCED to play in bowl games

Possible new rules on the horizon that could eliminate players opting out.

In essence, players may be forced to sign contracts for NIL money and part of the stipulation would be they have to play in every game including bowl games and playoffs.

You can force them to play but you cannot make them put any effort into it. Bowl games are for younger players to show out for the upcoming year or transfer portal.

Couldn't they just claim they're hurt?

Maybe the games that Auburn plays in. We are busy dealing with NY6 bowls and they matter.

I started a thread about this earlier today:
The article linked below is from Outkick. The crux of it is this quote from Ross Dellinger:
Bowl Season director Nick Carparelli told @YahooSports in Phoenix that he expects NIL to soon come “in-house” and for athletes to sign binding compensation contracts with schools that will require them to play in bowls and CFP games, eliminating or greatly reducing opt-outs.
If the schools were able to take over NIL from the collectives or whatever, they should be able to require the athletes to sign a contract that spells out the money they get and the responsibilities they have to abide by in order to get the money, just like any business transaction anywhere. It could potentially cut down on transfers (if you leave before your contract term, no money) as well as bowl opt outs. I've never bought in to the "meaningless bowl game" narrative - if my team is playing a football game then it's not meaningless to me - but if all the bowl teams were at full strength, all the games would be better.
I have no legal knowledge to inject here but maybe some of you Ranters do.

They wouldn’t be forced to sign it. They can refuse the money and play for free
A good life lesson to learn at that age is money comes with stipulations. This is no different than a NFL player signing a contract. If you want the big bucks you have to adhere to certain expectations

Excellent. You want to be paid a salary like an employee, you’re going to be treated like an employee. Show up for work or clean your shite out and turn in your key card.

Or NOT play for free. As it were.
I hate the sitting out. It’s not in the spirit of competition and play.

Agree. The Tax Slayer bowl may be meaningless to the Alabamas of the world but as a State fan I cherish any bowl game we make and want to win and expect the team to perform at full strength

yeah i'm sure this will work as planned

I mean, tbf, what's to stop the player from getting "injured" in bowl prep? Sounds like an easy workaround

That's silly.
Let the young guys start those crappy bowl games.

Sorry bro....I didn't see your thread. Didn't mean to double up on the topic.

I got a tight hammy, I can’t go coach, but I’m on the sidelines so I get my check.

About fricking time.

You can make them physically show up, but you can’t make them care enough to put forth the effort. I’ve seen it happen.

Yeah, like the old saying; There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Lots of ways to keep from playing in a game.
