Coaching is dynamic, but I've often wondered why someone hasn't photocopied Nicks recipe/procedure to a measurable extent. I think a lot of that plays into decisions like Smart to UGA. Hoping he can channel the process; however, it just never seems to take off.
Goes to show you that the personal intensity is critical........plus having #1 recruiting classes year in and year out.

Yes, you have to know whose arse to chew out and when.
No process can replicate that.

I think Saban's it factor is his ability to control a thousand different systems at once. It's a kind of intelligence and force of personality, can't be duplicated

Most important ingredient is boosters and bagmen willing to outbid the competition

Saban doesn't just snap his fingers to have #1 recruiting classes. He has spent years learning which players to go after for his system. Plus, he may be the hardest working coach in the business. That is where he passes all others and makes up for his deficiencies as a game day coach.

It's an interesting topic. Two thoughts
1) There has to be some innate or honed credibility from the coach in question. Saban has that, I'm not sure Kirby will. Doesn't mean the framework can't still be successful, I'm just not sure we can expect similar results.
2) Some of that credibility factor is from external forces. For Saban, it was the media and being at a program like Alabama. When Saban returned to NCAA it was on the wings of media gushing about how instantly he'd turn around Alabama and how recruits should feel graced if he calls upon them. Now, that makes a lot of sense. Then, the history didn't necessarily support it in the manner it does today. It was self-fulfilling.

This guy gets it.

Yea. His recruiting is more hard chemistry than others. I've seen him target some 3 star players that turned out to be jewels.

So what is considered his tree at this point?
Muschamp-USCe
Jimbo-FSU
Smart-UGA
Mac-UF
Is that it? And how long does one need to coach under another coach in order to be considered a part of a tree?

I think Belichick and Saban are very special individuals.

Saban will go down as the best in NCAA history.

Jimbo is succeeding. Mac looks promising and jury is out on Smart obviously.

There is only one Saban. Nobody can duplicate his coaching skills, recruiting ability, and his demand for perfection. There are better football coaches that can teach the game out there than him.
He is great because he gets the best players and puts them in the right places and demands they perform and they listen. That makes him the best Head Coach of all time in my opinion.

The need for control of all things is a trait of both NS & BB.
Bill just has a knack for getting guys that work in his system....same as NS
