Pick plays have been illegal for ages. However, they are rarely called so it pays to use them and pays even when called on occasion.

Neither of these plays is a blatant pick. Both times the receiver who caused traffic was engaged with an aggressive db who was hand fighting. It was perfect gameplanning to predict what Sabans guys would do and beat them at their own game. All the butt hurt little bitch gumps crying about it is a glorious irony

If you don't want WRs making contact off the ball, don't play press coverage....that's how it works.
You can tell they don't watch the NFL.

"The first play was not a pick.. the second one clearly was
Can't believe we lost on a frickin no call, Clempson had no business being in the game, should have been a blowout if bo wasn't hurt

Just because you say someone's melting doesn't mean they are. I know your brain doesn't allow you to add anything to the topic at hand but please try harder.

You're not using the forum correctly and suck at quoting.

Clemson WR didn't even pretend to run the route they just went and blocked the Bama DBs. It was so blatant the first time and it wasn't called. Bama should have been prepared the second time. That's on Saban especially with two timeouts left.
It used to be and I suppose it still is, that a DB can check a receiver within 2 yds of the line of scrimmage. The ref has to determine if the WR intends to block the DB so his guy can get clear behind him. Because Bama likes to put their hands on receivers it looks like the DB did that and the receiver lost his balance from the hand check and appears to be blocking while trying to get by on a route. Otherwise the DB caused the perception.

A run concept is basically where the receivers run cloth with each other and cross paths. Think of a pair of scissors when you open them all the way. This puts defenders in chase mode and they may run into each other.
A pick play is where a receivers actually runs into a defender. That's illegal. There are situations in which rub routes look like pick plays but in actuality they aren't.

Two comments, one about Saban. He ran this same exact play to beat LSU in OT in 2014. So he knows about the play & should know how to properly defend it. Two, as noted, the head ref was on D.Patrick's show & said that "any overt act by the DB negates a pick pentalty". And he specifically mentioned the DB using his hands in any way. On both plays, bama's DB's were using their hands on the WR's.

ran it like 10 consecutive times on the winning drive of the 2009 iron bowl. that game was a freaking clinic on pick plays.
