No. Just no.
You lost 2 rocks back there. I think Rebels will have a good squad, but you don't replace those 2 experienced guys and get better IMO. LSU returns Tre White, Dwayne Thomas, and Jamal Adams.

Oregon will be a more complete team this year but USC and Stanford will be improved and Mariota was transcendent in our system. We were young at skill spots and our Oline was patchwork last year. The secondary was my biggest concern outside of quarterback. However, the legend of Ugo Amadi continues to grow and Chuck Nelson flipped to corner.
It now comes down to how vernon adams translates and how quickly he developes.

And Jalen Mills. Our secondary talent is just stupid.

Why is it retarded to think LSU will be top 5?
1. I never said it was
2. It just is
Sorta like Auburn before the 2013 season....

While doubtful, I wouldn't rule out Rashard Robinson, either.
Then add Kevin Toliver and Ed Paris.... if we get ANY sort of pass rush, it'll be deadly.

Right, except Auburn had a new coach with an entirely different scheme. Not saying I expected Auburn to be top 2 (or top 5, for that matter), but the 2013 Auburn is different from 2015 LSU. I have no idea how LSU will actually be. I could easily see an 8-10 win season.

Not really though. As far as offense was concerned, every player on that roster was recruited to run Malzhan's offense.

I think you missed my point. I'm just saying that's why there may have been reason for Auburn being ranked higher.
Also, the fact that they were recruited for Malzahn's scheme lends more credence to a higher initial ranking.

I think what it lends itself to is the realization that preseason polls are little more than a direct continuation of post-bowl rankings.
Based on returning starters on offense, there's no reason to put Alabama in the Top 5 other than the fact that they are Alabama and it is expected.

And, as you alluded to, expectation/clout.

But look at the defense.
The entire starting DL returns (Allen/Reed/Robinson) plus rotational guys like Pettway, Tomlinson, Hand, and Lake.
Reggie Ragland and Denzel Devall return at LB, plus Ryan Anderson who played almost as much as any OLBs.
Cyrus Jones is going into his third year as a starter. As is Eddie Jackson. Tony Brown was essentially a Co-Starter last year and will start full time this year. Geno Smith played a lot of Star/FS.
JK Scott and Adam Griffith are back.
Defense and STs are fine with experience.
Offensively you look at returning starters and see, what, 2? But that number is deceptive.
Derrick Henry had more yards AND YPCs than Yeldon and the same # of TDs on less carries. He didn't start, but it isn't like we're breaking in a new back. Drake is also experienced.
C-Rob and Kelly are back on the OL.
OJ Howard wasn't the "starter" at TE, but played almost as much as Vogler.
WR is inexperienced though. Stewart and Black played some, but not too much.
Bama is hardly lacking experience. And the defense is set to be the best since 2011.

Bama is missing Amari. That's a big missing piece from an offense

Sims is gone... Yeldon..... Cooper, and 3/5 of your line. You'll probably look a lot like 2014 LSU with a slightly better defense. Probably finish better than 8-4, but certainly not Top 5.

This may be the year of the West trying to keep an East team (probably Georgia) from the playoffs.
The West is gonna be a grind. If Bama is the best, they play a shitload of teams that are coming off of byes and their most difficult games are largely on the road. I'd be astonished if a West team escapes with fewer than two losses.
It will be up to Georgia to win their cross-division games (Bama, @Auburn) and not shite their pants against any teams they should beat (also not guaranteed).

Tee Shephard and Tony Bridges are actually more talented than the two we lost. We will have quality backups behind them too. Tony Connor, Mike Hilton, Trae Elston, Chief Brow, CJ Hampton will be pretty good at the safeties. LSU will be very good too. Pretty tight last year.

Alabama couldn't purposely look that bad on offense.
