They had the same talent level last year and finished 16th.
Same talent of course since they return 18 starters. The point was youth vs experience. If anyone understands this it should be an MSU fan considering what Dak did to LSU with a team loaded with experienced players 2 years ago.

Had they beaten 2 of Bama, Arky, and Ole Miss, it would be a different story.
So it would take LSU being 11-1 last year for you to justify a top 10 ranking going into this year.

Unless they go full on spread formation triple option next year I don't see them finishing in the top ten. As much talent as they have, and they have a ton of talent, they don't have the passing game to beat the top teams.
You'll actually see us go offset I a lot more next year. We did this in the bowl game and it was very effective for both Dobbs and Hurd. It still gives us options and Hurd eats up the I.
Our passing woes were downfield in nature and largely do to our OL + losing Pig Howard, North (yes, he played but he might as well not have because he was injured so much) and Croom. When our OL gives time for the QB to throw and WRs to get open the passing game is actually pretty good -- the trouble was they couldn't do that very well.
When you can pick up 4 to 5 yards running almost every down you really don't have to have a huge passing threat, just enough of one.
If our secondary had been better we would've won every game we lost except for Bama where the secondary played lights out. For all the offenses problems they were one of the best last year whereas the defense despite a killer line let us down early in the season.

I'm not a MSU fan. The experience argument would have worked if your team wasnt getting beat at the end of the year.
No but the way the games lined up with them at the end they could have lost to someone else earlier. Plus we are talking top 5, one team away from the playoffs. Returning 18 starters on a team that lost 3 of its last 5 by double digits doesn't scream almost playoff team.

You won't go 4-5 yards a carry against the top of the line up though. Against the teams with something in their britches you need to back them up from the line of scrimmage.
Which, with the right play calling, the Vols can do. Dobbs on a rollout throw/run option would be terrifying. He most certainly has the intelligence to pick the right choice most of the time.
Ideally the Vols want to hammer with the run game, throw just enough of those roll out short passes to keep teams honest, and then hit the home run pass when its there.
Or use the great speed Dobbs has to torch people on the option.
With any luck both.

I thought you were an MSU fan sporting an AU logo for some reason. I thought I remembered you but I guess not.
Makes no sense logically. But 2 of those 3 were good teams. Arkansas always plays LSU tough.
But they didn't. You said you'd need LSU to go 11-1 to justify that ranking this year. There is no way to spin that as it is what you said. Winning 2 of their 3 losses would be 11-1.
I'll give you the double digit loss justification, but earlier you said LSU doesn't belong anywhere near the top 10 IIRC?

I agree with most of this. Passing game obviously needs to improve to make the offense less predictable and take some of the heat off Hurd/Kamara, no doubt. Some of that was Dobbs but a lot of that was receivers. Remember the drops Josh Malone and Preston Williams had against the Hogs? If those two step up, I can definitely see VOLS passing game becoming much, much better.

Ole Miss fans wouldn't want to be in the top 10?

Beating Grierless UF at home barely isn't anything to brag about.

Reports are that Preston Williams is looking like an absolute beast monster now that his knee is fully healed.
If he, JJ and Malone all improve to catch up with the consistency of Josh Smith...watch out for our passing game and overall O.

Surprised you weren't on page 1 with your boyfriend TT9. What happened? Did your mom forget to pay your AOL dial up bill?
