Why not? Saban is getting what 4 mil for 9 wins and a 4th place finish in the west?

Or a national title and sec title and heisman winner and outland winner and butkus winner.

The difference between LSU and Ark after a 10-2 season is this>

Arkansas fans talks about raises and bonuses for their coach

LSU fans talk about whether they want Miles back next year or not.. most say yes, but you get the idea...2 different levels

Baby Steps.

It use to be you never have: won the sec, been to a bcs bowl, won a MNC during xx-xx time frame.

Taking one item of the list, work on the other two starting next year...

Arkansas had a great QB this year, and a great QB

Decent D..good coaching

From LSU's stand point, we gifted you 2 TD's...seriously, that was ridiculous, and hasn't happened all year. 3 bombs in one game? Are you kidding me?

Arkansas gifted LSU the ball on the 5 yard line and could not score a TD..

LSU played awful and still almost won the ball game. LSu was 10-2 with no QB, awful offense, bad play calling...

What can LSU do with a more favorable schedule and improved QB play? We'll find out next season

Winning five games by 8 points or less isn't a good omen. Those are usually the teams that take a step back the following year. While LSU has a lot coming back, they will lose some key defensive players.

Let me put it too you this way...LSU is justing warmed up...talent is over flowing in BR...This is class might be the best ever signed at LSU.

IF, and it's a big if...If LSU can get the QB issue figured out...Heck, do you really think we would have lost any games this year with an average passign attack? We won game inspite of the offense this year.

It's frustrating to say the least.. talent is the problem at LSU .. I doubt we go backwards anytime soon..the recruiting is too solid IMHO

Go ahead and get rid of Miles, but we would rather you lock him up for a long, long time. We are just giving credit and reward for the job Petrino did. Remember, Miles inherited a hell of a better situation than did Petrino.

Mullen and Petrino are both getting big raises this offseason.

I would guesss Chiz and the entire AU staff will too.

I believe Chiz's base salary was $1.8 mil when we hired him two years ago. He got a raise last year and it is a VERY incentive heavy contract. Hope Chiz cleans up this year. All our assistants also.

ETA: Original topic - Petrino deserves it. Top 5 coach in college football IMO. Top 10 should not even be debateable.

If we win the Sugar Bowl then we are a BCS Champion of the Sugar Bowl and get an awesome silver cup thing. Something we do not have a lot of is Championship Trophies that we do not have to give back when we lose.

The problem is that Petrino has decent to mediocre talent with a couple of studs and is 10-2 with a win over LSU. Miles has studs sprinkled throughout, but can't build an offense with top five guys at every position except QB (oh, you have one of those...but he plays WR) and is 10-2 with a loss to Arkansas.

You give us your defensive talent and we go 12-0 blowing everyone out of the water. We give you our offensive talent and your staff would squander it and probably still lose two.

I expect LSU to be in the SEC hunt every year.

I was jealous when Arky got Petrino. They won the lottery with that pick up.

I'll be the first to admit that signing Petrino after being shunned by Jim Grobe and Tommy Bowden did kind of feel like winning the lottery.

Thank God they didn't work out.

How is it getting shunned when the AD is told that if he wants to hire them, then he will have to pay their salary out of his own pocket?

Year 3 and he improved us again.

I have confidence in Petrino. I see alot steadier road with him. We will not have the terrible down years we had under Nutt. We should be pretty good every year.
