Alabama has been the most screwed team in the country for NC so I don't mind claiming 1941.

Dumb post, but I'll speak for 99% of Bama fans, when I say we'd gladly give up '41. I'm young enough that I don't care about '66.

Bama didn't win the 1941 OR the 1966 title. While bama may have DESERVED the national title in 1966, it was never awarded to them. Claiming the 1966 title would be the equivalent of Auburn claiming the 1983 or the 2004 National Titles. It would just be stupid.

As for 1941, there really is no similar comparison. It's quite possibly the most outlandish claim to a "trophy" that any organization in any sport tries to make. It honestly taints the entire batch of trophies that Alabama rightfully owns. I've never figured out why the university feels the need to make a claim on something to obviously not theirs.

You've got to be kidding us? Please say so.

Alabama being awarded a NC Trophy it never deserved is the entire reason that not one by BOTH major polls changed their procedure about awarding the National Title before the bowl games.

In 1964, Alabama was awarded both the AP and the UPI National Championships BEFORE getting beat by Texas in the bowl game. The thing is, Arkansas was sitting there unbeaten with a win over that same Texas team. The '64 title rightfully belongs to Arkansas yet the trophy had already been handed out to Alabama. Due to the fiasco, the AP changed their procedure the very next season and began awarding the trophy AFTER the bowl games.

Fast-forward to 1973. The UPI gives out their trophy before the bowl games and names Alabama the National Champion. Then Notre Dame beats Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. The AP (thanks to their decade-long decision to hold off) made the correct move and rightfully awarded the National Title to 11-0 Notre Dame. The UPI trophy was unfortunately already sitting in Tuscaloosa with 10-1 Alabama.

It was such a joke that the UPI followed the AP (a decade too late) in awarding the trophy AFTER the bowl games.

Twice Alabama was handed a trophy that they did not earn on the field. While I would certainly still claim the Titles if I were Alabama (they were given them after all), it is certainly worth noting that two of Alabama's 10 national titles were only given to them due to a faulty system that each time was reversed after the mistake was made.

Additionally you have 1978 which is a joke.

USC finished 12-1
Bama finished 11-1

USC beat Bama by 10 points at Legion Field. It's a joke that the AP gave Bama the title over a USC squad with a better record who beat them by double-digits at Bama.

To claim Alabama is the most screwed team in the country when it comes to National Titles is a bigger stretch than claiming the '41 title all together.

1936 was the year the AP Poll originated. Any title awarded by either the AP (1936) or the UPI (originated in 1951 I believe) is legit. Mistakes were certainly made (like awarding championships before bowl games, etc.), but overall its a good indicator of who the best teams were in each year.

Any titles claimed before 1936 or any titles claimed that were not awarded by either the AP or the UPI are an attempt to create program prestige out of some type of inferiority complex (looking at you Ole Miss, Arky, A&M, and Bama).

Until LSU won the 2003 BCS trophy (despite the AP's disagreement), Arkansas had a more recent national title then LSU or Auburn.

What I find odd is the Football Writers Association of America honored Iowa (8-1-1) as their national champion in 1958. Iowa fans don't claim it though. However, Ohio State lays claim to their FWAA title in either 1961 or 1970, years in which they didn't win AP or UPI.

Actually, a lot of Iowa fans do claim that NC and the school does too. I've seen the trophy. That was the only poll taken after bowl games too during the time.

Texas won the UPI vote, which crowned their champion before bowl result. It counts.
