I'm starting the petition.

Reading through the Arkansas national title thread and seeing Arkansas fans trying to defend their 1960's title has made me sad. I've also seen teams like Texas A&M and Ole Miss posters refer to accomplishments from long before they were born in attempts to claim they've won something of significance.

With Thanksgiving and the holidays coming up, I feel it's time to give back to the less fortunate. As we're melting over an upcoming Sugar Bowl or outside shot at the playoffs after just one loss, seeing fans cling to accomplishments from lifetimes ago puts things in perspective. We don't need the 1958 title, we don't really care much about it. But it would mean a lot to one of the aforementioned three teams. I urge others to do the same. Auburn, Alabama please pitch in a title from when black people couldn't play. Tennessee, feel free also as even though you have fallen on hard times you can still remember glory days that you actually witnessed.

A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss could really use it. Tis the season to give after all

What I find odd is the Football Writers Association of America honored Iowa (8-1-1) as their national champion in 1958. Iowa fans don't claim it though. However, Ohio State lays claim to their FWAA title in either 1961 or 1970, years in which they didn't win AP or UPI.

Dumb post, but I'll speak for 99% of Bama fans, when I say we'd gladly give up '41. I'm young enough that I don't care about '66.

A&M claims '19 and '27 that were both undefeated and untied seasons where they were recognized as NC. In '19 they were unscored upon and the team consisted of WWI Vets who came back from kicking the crap out of the Germans and took it out on other college football teams.

Texas OTOH still claims 1970 in spite of getting blown out in the Cotton Bowl that year in the last game.

'66 was a hose, Kenny Stabler led Alabama two-time defending champion and undefeated hosed and cheated by Yankees and Catholics.

But '77 was an out and out screw job. Alabama #2 destroyed Ohio State and Woody Hayes, while #5 Notre Dame beat #1 Texas. Notre Dame had lost to Ole Miss during the season for god's sake while Alabama did have one loss to Southern Cal. But Alabama was a shoo in to move up.

I was driving around Tuscaloosa the next morning hung over like crazy listening to Steely Dan play "they call Alabama the Crimson Tide..." when ND was announced. It took until 2012 to get that out of my system.

Other seasons Alabama should have... 1945 and 1949. Hell, lets just list all of them. Alabama has been the most screwed team in the country for NC so I don't mind claiming 1941.

Ahem.

In this thread, Bama has stolen not only LSU's national title, but Wake Forest's song title as well. Bravo.

then you may as well give back the 2007 title too It is a joke to give a team that loses two games to unranked teams a title shot much less a title. Go undefeated then claim something
