Of course, none of them nor their immediate family members have any affiliation with the University. As a matter of fact, I don't know if 10% of the people I've met in Mobile have even gone to ANY type of college/university.

Mobile can be a bit of a melting pot as well, due to its location on the Gulf Coast. It's also a major port and the growing aerospace and steel industry bring people from all over. I still think the OP is hanging out in the shipyards and being made fun of by the local good-ole-boys.

There are 2 types of Alabama fans.
1) Fans of Alabama football
2) Fans of the university
The latter are a much cooler group to be around.

Nah, it's not as bad as I make it out to be. Mobile is close enough to nice beaches, and New Orleans so I can get away for a nice weekend trip a couple times a month.

Yeah you can, but since Alabama has the richest history in the conference, the fans of just the football program (most likely the cocky sidewalk alumni the OP is referring to.) are more likely to outnumber fans of the other schools and be more spread around the area. At least IMO.

That answers your own question then. If I went to backwoods South Carolina, I would probably get a few looks if I ran my mouth. Did you expect 90% of laborers, running around in a shipyard, to be college graduates?
