Do not think anything will come of this, but I did not realize he was selling the signed stuff.

LINK

The storefront has signed Alabama items on display, and a source close to the situation indicated Alabama's December letter made specific reference to the sale or distribution of items autographed by current Alabama student-athletes. Phone calls to Al-Betar were not immediately returned.

Do y'all Auburn folk wake up every day and search "what did bama do wrong"?

Doesn't matter that he sold them as long as they didn't profit from it. There is signed memorabilia for Auburn that is for sale right now. It is their property the univ can't tell them what to do with his property.

When it becomes against the rules to sell things autographed by a player then we will have a problem, until then it's not even close to being an issue

It's a fresh article and it does actually explain the situation instead of pure speculation, so I'll let it slide unless and until this turns into a flame war.

Figured this came from ITAT. Took a look there, 14 out of 27 first page threads are about Bama. Winning a nat'l championship changes nothing, I guess.

Where in the article does it say he is selling current players signed merchandise?

Thanks IC, it was new info which is why I posted it. I also hope the flaming on this site stops, but that information is allowed.

this story may have legs.

So which is it? The quote in the OP or the quote from ITAT?

So a college town business has sports memorabilia on display. I don't think I've ever seen that anywhere else.

Said sports memorabilia gets sold by owner. Don't think I've ever seen that either.

Auburn better go raid the local Ruby Tuesdays before this gets out of hand...

I wonder if Alabama needs to disassociate from him. Seems that would be a logical step. Get there clothes from someone else.

How effective is the cease and desist, if he still gets sideline passes?

It's not uncommon for players to sign memorabilia for fans. You can buy signed UA / AU stuff all over the net. The only speculation is why they signed so many items on different occasions for this same guy. That's more than likely why UA sent the letter to the guy to stop any speculation before it started.

COrrect which is what a couple of us said. 77 is trying to stir shite as usual and sucking up to Ice so it doesn't get anchored. Go to any restaraunt in BR and you will find signed memorabilia in them. Nothing illegal unless the players are selling them. Again a thinly veiled flame is all this is

Absolutely 77 let's jst frick the small business owner of a contract he has with the univ to provide game day attire to the players that they are required to wear.

I'm sure no other teams have fanatical followers that have the teams signatures on a yearly basis. Think about the amount of business's that support athletic programs. When I was there everybody had stuff like this up and I know other towns do the same. Hell, my high school got supported like this.

I can't tell if this is propaganda or what.

Serious question. Are Au fans blaming Bama for all of their recent NCAA issues? Is that where this is coming from?

I sure didn't see any of you from Bama complaining about all the threads concerning Auburn the last 8 months.

If anything some of you were dancing and throwing out mud. So with that said I am also tired of the back and forth, but please stop with the self righteousness and hypocrisy.

I was actually taking up for UA by saying this isn't uncommon and UA did the right thing by sending the letter before the speculation started. I think Clay Travis is the one that broke this on his site. Blame him and other pot stirrirs for trying to drum up some hits during the offseason.

If you read the Tuscaloosa news article yesterday it said the same thing. It said that the C&D letter made specific reference to the guy selling and distributing signed merchandise. The article said Alabama asked him to stop selling and distributing signed merchandise by current student Athletes. I am not trying to flame but doesn't that prove a violation of the bylaw. The debate was did the guy profit from having the merchandise in his store correct? I do believe many people had post the other day saying similar things that it was not like he was selling the merchandise etc... Well now they are pretty much admitting that he was profiting from past and current players correct?
