I couldn't believe the OM guy on here who claims that this was all worth it.
OM fans are looking at a decade of being the ultimate punchline in college sports. How is it going to feel when you wear your OM gear and people think you're just being an ironic hipster d-bag because nobody actually pulls for OM
Ole Missing is going to become a verb, meaning to lose all moral conscience and to actively seek to cheat in order to gain a miniscule amount of success.

You're right... They will be back to 3 wins a year in no time...

PSU has a history of winning Ole Miss doesn't

Hard for a team to recover when they won't have any players on the field!

Penn St "recovered" to Penn St historical level.
Maybe someday Ole Miss will recover to Ole Miss historical levels.
What's that? 6-5? now 6-6?

Penn State is also a blue blood program with like or wealthy power brokers. They have top notch facilities and fertile recruiting grounds that they often get first pick in. So not remotely the same.

By the time the NCAA released their penalties onto Penn State, Joe Paterno had been dead for 6 months and Jerry Sandusky was already convicted and in jail. The only competitive advantage Penn State gained from that entire ordeal was that Jerry Sandusky wasn't fired earlier, but by then he was already dealt with by the judicial system.
This is different for Ole Miss because it's about their efforts to actively gain a competitive advantage by establishing a system of providing impermissible benefits to players. Much more similar to SMU. Now, if evidence comes out that Ole Miss provided prostitutes to recruits who were underage, then we're treading more into the Penn State criminal territory than simple cheating in football.
Ole Miss fits the bill of a program that needs to be made an example of, just like SMU was. Hardly any previous prestige or tradition to consider. Plus it doesn't help that Ole Miss has been jollily giving the finger to the NCAA this whole time.

The infractions were very different. The PSU football program was otherwise squeaky clean. Paterno was not violating recruiting rules or anything else operationally. No violations. The NCAA really overreached in terms of what they did. They inserted themselves into a criminal investigation involving an incident that its core was not football related. Sandusky had been long gone from the program and his crimes did not involve anything with the football program....other than his access to the facilities which Paterno had no control over. I'm not excusing Paterno's inaction, but this was a criminal matter that did not involve anything with the players on the team or any recruits
Ole Miss is vastly different....it's much closer to what SMU did and the whole Logan Young thing. There are real allegations if not proof of recruiting violations and "paying" some players.

Penn State is far from squeaky clean. The do have a following like Bama and Tennessee that are borderline cultish which makes it terribly difficult to hammer them for anything.

But PSU is mostly Catholic and there's not a stigma with raping boys but cheating is a mortal sin.

Penn State is a legendary football program with name recognition and an ability to continuously draw in talented coaches and players. That makes it easier to recover. Penn State recovering also means they've become a blue blood again.
Ole Miss is Ole Miss, for whom recovering and getting back to normal means the bottom of the SEC.

Makes sense, if you don't take into account the money and support and tradition that Penn State has vs OM.
Or all the penalties, that were reduced, or dropped.

Penn State is a blue blood that has a rich tradition of winning. They have all kinds of institutional advantages that help them compete. OM was no more than a flash in the pan. The way this has been handled is a study in contrasts and should tell you exactly why OM will have a hard time recovering. Their best hope is to catch lightning in a bottle but even then I doubt it would sustain itself longer term.
OM has a TON of work to do just to lay the groundwork and that's before you get into coaches, players, etc.
