Nick Saban, one of the great defensive coaches of all time, hasn’t been able to put a top-shelf secondary on the field for the last couple of years. Nor, for that matter, has he been able to find a star kicker or a star quarterback.

Those are glaring and surprising problems for a program that, year-in and year-out, recruits the best talent in America. How is Alabama not three-deep in stud kickers and quarterbacks? Every year?

quote:

Winning in Bryant-Denny Stadium was a landmark achievement for Mississippi, one the Rebels can rightfully rejoice in. But this stunning upset also had the look, sound and feel of a program-altering loss for mighty Alabama. The Nick Saban Era could be reaching a crossroads in its attempt to regain past glory.

I wonder if he hinted at one last year after we lost to OM and then won the SEC and got a playoff birth?

Alabama is obviously in the twilight of their dominant run. It was nice tide fans, be proud. Also, know that the shite is over, and no one is impressed or scared of your current team

Pat Forde is awful. But I don't think you can deny that Bama is not who they were.

We are going to hear all about the demise of the SEC from pundits and hacks. They smell blood and the sharks circle. The truth is that there are other teams in the SEC not named Bama.

How mad is the REC in B'ham? Their cash cow over the past 7 years is ending.

Nobody stays on top forever. That is why we continue to play the game.

You can see the start of the decline. It isn't going to be noticed by many people until after Saban is retired, but you can tell they have lost their edge, they don't play with the same focus and energy anymore.

The last thing that happens is they start to quite, but that is a long ways away yet.

Bama had a great run and still loaded with a ton of elite talent so there is nothing to be ashamed about.

He turns 64 next month.

Bama will be back again with another great run (but not recruit as many elite studs) again in the future after they fade for a while after Saban).

Just like how all great programs rise, fall, rise, fall, rise, fall, rinse and repeat.

No, you're right.

Too bad that means your team is not as good as OM fans claim they are. The Rebs beat a floundering, horribly coached team with less than adequate players.

I was wondering why Sumlin and Mason were drinking at a different water fountain.

Are you purposely trying to diminish the win?

Alabama is and will remain the most important game on your schedule and everyone else's for that matter.

Alabama never seemed to realize how lucky they were in 2011 and 2012. Things had to fall just right, and they did, and everybody around that program just acted like it would stay that way. Now Saban is winding things down,half-retired already, the fans are entitled and whiny, and everybody except for the Gumps can see exactly what's happening.

It isn't really just us claiming to be good and we won in T-town. It's a pretty big win, whether you suck or not. And I think we can end the "Henry for Heisman" talk. He is a freight train. Can't turn left or right.
