Prof, thanks for the heads up and the background about the UT connection. Actually good when ownership belongs to someone in the SEC family. Host Communications (KY roots) and CLC (AL roots) were both home grown before they were bought by east coast private equity and got rolled into IMG College. Host had a big office and lots of employees that have all been moved to NYC or ACC country.

I thought Dish had 20 million subscribers but your link said they had only 14 million subscribers (not a big number compared to 300 - 350 million americans) and it would only be for folks with 120 channel + service (not sure what that level costs per month) so while the net may be wide, it is not a big net. This is not great in the sense that some bigger outfit can buy this company up and it will no longer have SEC ties.

Just out of curiosity, what is your bill per month for 120 channels (not what they advertise, but what you actually pay after hidden charges, fees, and taxes)

On a side note I really would love if they would go to a la carte and you can pay for just what you want. First thing I would drop is Disney and all those shopping channels.

I don't like any school in the SEC, besides LSU.

I'll cheer for some in their bowl games. But for the most part, I hope they lose.

You would prefer 1 team to cull the conference every year
if I understand what you're saying, this type of situation has really hurt the pac12, despite obvious national media bias fighting against it

the deeper the conference the lower the probability this actually happens.
false again. the strength of the sec has really served the conference well in the postseason, most notably ncg appearances.

I don't know because what I have is the Joey w/Hopper plus Top 200 and blockbuster at home. It's about 100 bucks for all that. I'd have a lot cheaper package but I have to have BBC America.

What you need to pay attention to with Dish though is the cost of the DVR service which isn't factored into the package price. It's great service but it runs higher than it should because their DVR is better than others - the have a proprietary fast forward live thingy ding. So if you sign up with Dish add the cost of package + ask what DVR service costs to get your total. TN is also a bitch and charges sales tax.

I complained when my year of discounts ended and now I have another 12mos with a 10 dollar discount. So they're receptive to complaints.

I only really want about 10 channels, but they are always in the top end and you have to pay for all the crap to get them.

I would like to have BTN and PTN just for when they play SEC teams and that is the only way to watch, but have no desire to watch their conference stuff (okay, maybe PAC softball) or their filler shows.

So you are saying the DVR charge is in addition to the 100 bucks per month? 1,200 a year to watch TV (especially with so many ads) seems like highway robbery. Channels filled with reality shows, shopping, and infomercials should pay me to take them. There was a time when the history channel actually showed history stuff. Now it is male soap operas about truckers and lumberjacks. Lordy, they nancied up wrasslin 20 years ago and now it has spread to all kinds of stuff.

If I see a game involving SEC vs SEC I'll root for the underdog just for kicks but if it is SEC vs other I root for the SEC every time

No the DVR service is included in that price as is tax and extra for blockbuster@home. The reason I mention DVR service is because the way they break down the pricing is by programming package so you'll see a package at say $50 bucks and people think that will be their bill but you gotta add DVR costs to that so $50 bucks can become $65 bucks when DVR plus tax is added in.

The only reason mine is high is because of the package I have that keeps everyone in the house happy but if it were just me no way it would be that high. I don't even watch that much tv (once in a blue moon).

TBH, all of the cable and sat companies are committing highway robbery right now even at the low end. And I'm convinced they intentionally single out certain channels to force people to buy higher. Most people only care about a handful of channels and so they intentionally leave one out to make you 'bump up' your service. It's infuriating.

I haven't met a single TV provider or ISP that hasn't utterly fricked their customers as both services operate as virtual monopolies with little to no competition.

Because back when were were all sad about joining the SEC instead of the Big Ten this is what the SEC people told us they did.

So I fell in line with what I was sold, but I'm beginning to see that I don't like most of you people and don't want your teams to win.

Really who is going to taunt Missouri? Kansas? Iowa? Illinois? Like you should give a rat's arse what those terrible programs have to say about football.

Because it's far better for you for your conference opponent to win than to lose. This is the case with any sport that has selection committees, playoffs, RPI, etc. In case y'all haven't figured it out - we get all those bowl selections on the strength of our conference and the strength of our conference is often the tie-breaker when they decide between two teams with equal records who is going to the Natty. Likewise we got snubbed in the NCAA tourney with only 3 selections because our conference was considered weak (at least 2 other teams should've gotten in based on who got in from other conferences) and after all 3 of those teams making to the sweet 16, two in the final four, and one in the finals, our conference may get better seeding next year AND more picks. The SEC is family to me and it's the same for many Southerners - we have family and friends all over the South and so we have connections to teams that aren't our own. I cheer for SEC schools in the post season because I believe we're the best conference in the college sports and in sports where we haven't gotten there yet I want us to be there. Success builds upon success.
Amen! Also, If you're old enough to remember how the SEC was looked upon and treated 50 or more years ago by the rest of the country, you'd better understand why we stick together...plus I hate all those B1G biased tools that do the color for TV.

Yelling SEC at the Big 12 Basketball Championship was pretty awesome. It was pretty sweet taking those doucher's trophy with us as we walked out the door.

I usually pull for the SEC in most games unless it hurts LSU's rankings/bowl chances.

Pretty simple for me.

It's more fun to play, watch, go to games etc. in the best conference around. To be the best conference around, the conference needs to do well ooc.

Those who want all of the other conference teams to suck have a short-sighted point of view. So they all suck, now what? Congrats you now play in Conference USA?

This seems to be a prevalent feeling among LSU fans...go figure.

I generally pull for SEC teams OOC; the one permanent exception is bammer - I wouldn't pull for them if they were playing Beelzebub U.

I like UT, LSU, A&M and UGA the best of the other SEC teams. I used to like MSU and Arky but Mullen and Bert are such jerks - hopefully they won't be around much longer.

The other schools - meh.

In any case, the "SEC" chant is just stupid.
