That way the BCS bowls can still take the losers of the semifinal round.

this is the bad part and the negative trade-off of a playoff

the attendance for those games will likely suck and so much so that they should probably just not do both the playoff and the bowl invite

The season just ended in a negative way for those teams. Their fans are disapointed and are just not going to show up in great numbers for a consolation bowl game

IMO You are better off just realizing the two losers in the first round are done for the year

I dont think the conferences will go for this.

If Lsu eliminates Michigan, UM goes to Rose Bowl
Bama beats Oklahoma the Sooners finish the season in the Cotton

I disagree

If you still have the four BCS bowls, the championship game and add in the first round of the playoffs... there is going to be more money distributed

The Big10 and Pac12 aren't going to allow their champions not to go to the Rose Bowl if they lose in a national semifinal.

They already do something highly similar to that - big 1G and PAC teams given a bid to the BCS NCG do not go to the Rose Bowl.

Typically they try to pick up a replacement Big 1G or PAC team for the Rose and I expect that trend would continue

I don't want a playoff because if a team gets hot at the right time then they win the title without being the best. It should always be about the best team winning the Championship. Neither the Giants nor the Patriots were the best team in the NFL, but every year in the BCS we've had the best team win it all.

I understand what you are arguing. I disagree and I'm pointing out there's very little difference between what is already done and what would be done with a four team playoff

But you'd have to be pretty damn good to be ranked top 4, like in this proposal. And if you beat 2 of the 3 other teams in the top 4 at the end of the year, you deserve to be called Champion.

The difference is the B10 gets the BCS money if they go to the NCG, so there is no real trade off. If they lose they're not going to give up the BCS game because they would be giving up the money.

i think it has merits. better than the current system. it doesn't necessarily replace the BCS, except it dictates the BCS Championship game. and adds 2 games at home stadiums. i'd agree to the home stadium so long as the top 4 teams were at-large and not slotted to conferences. (i.e. LSU and Bama both make it using 2011). you've got to start somewhere.
