Lsu doesn't have a national championship in basketball. Literally the only entity that recognizes Lsu's "title" is Lsu itself.

But it wasn't the Benevolent Order of Elks that awarded it... so we've got that going for us.

It's a legit claim so yeah. The only thing that says Lsu has a basketball championship is the banner you guys hung.

The following table ranks the current SEC schools by the number of NCAA recognized national championships each school has won. This does not include Division I-A/FBS football championships, equestrian championships, or unofficial championships in other sports such as men's basketball. However, it does include AIAW titles, which the NCAA has retroactively recognized as equivalent to its own national championships. Please note that some championships may have been won before the school was a member of the SEC. For example, Arkansas won 18 national championship prior to joining the SEC in 1992. If those are removed from the table below, Arkansas would be tied for fourth place with 24 national championships while a member of the SEC. Texas A&M won 11 national championships and Missouri two before joining the SEC in 2012.

In addition, some recognized national championships are in sports that are (or were) not sponsored by the SEC:

Kentucky's total includes one championship in rifle, which the SEC has never sponsored.
Vanderbilt's only national title is in bowling, another sport yet to be sponsored by the SEC.
NCAA/AIAW Titles School
42 LSU
42 Arkansas
26 Florida
26 Georgia
17 Tennessee
14 Auburn
11 Texas A&M
10 Kentucky
8 Alabama
3 South Carolina
2 Missouri
1 Vanderbilt
0 Ole Miss
0 Mississippi State

I thought the NCAA doesn't recognize football titles. Or is it they don't award one but do recognize them? In any event, I'm not sure this is correct without clarification.

That's just a list. For instance, note in 1908 LSU is listed as a champion though the school does not recognize the title. This looks like just a list of champions and who declared it, not an NCAA recognition of the legitimacy of said titles. Now maybe they recognize them, but I'm not sure on what basis they would be doing that if they are listing many that those schools don't even claim.

No need. Just an interesting footnote of history.

That list is a complete list of NCAA DIV 1 recognized titles (NOT 1A)titles won by each school. This include women's nat'l titles.

1935 Louisiana State def. Pittsburgh, 41-37, in a post-season game in Atlantic City that matched leading teams from the South and the Northeast.
