But Honey Badger. We aren't talking about who is really good. Not even saying he was the best player weve had at his position. But what made him so great was this insane level of inherent talent/instincts.
We are talking about that kind of talent that comes along and is unlike anything else. No one, NO ONE has the kind of ball instincts that kid has. The closest comparisons to him are ed reed who is a solid 20 years older?
Hate me, hate him, idc... he is a once in a generation talent
This is laughable. Patrick Peterson is better at every aspect of the game.

Benadrick Mckinney for Mississippi State will be better than any LB that has ever come for Georgia. So stop being a little bitch.

Within that quote, I stated i wasn't even saying he was the best player we have had at his position.
Im saying that his innate ability to hone in on the ball is once in a generation. And it is.
ETA:Here are some others who agree...
quote:
Tyrann Mathieu, LSU. A spark, tiny with tremendous power to create sudden combustion. Energy transforming all around him. Tyrann Mathieu is instant impact. Possession-changing, game-breaking. Instinct so pure, it's a marvel to teammates and a mystery of Mathieu himself, a born baller, demanding focus, diminutive and dominant. Just like the fearless, furious honey badger himself."
Chris Fowler, ESPN at the 2011 Heisman Trophy presentation
quote:
"The best player in college football in 2011. The most dynamic non-offensive player we've seen since Michigan's Charles Woodson."
Desmond Howard, ESPN analyst and 1991 Heisman Trophy winner
quote:
"Very few guys have a knack for making these kind of plays so often, and they don't come around much. Charles Woodson has it. So does Ed Reed. Troy Polamalu too. Mathieu is like a combination of the three."
Bruce Feldman, CBSSports.com
quote:
"Mathieu is a phenomenon - he makes more big plays per touch of the football than anyone I can remember ... one of the most impactful defensive backs college football has ever seen."

Peterson
Mathieu if that counts
Would have been Perilloux

There are plenty of people just within the last few years that have far better ball skills than him, including Peterson.

quote:Pat Pete easily has the measurables and was about as lockdown of a corner as you'll see at the collegiate level. But, all things considered, what Mathieu did in 2011 has never been done before and will most likely never be done again. No one has ever made as many plays from different areas on the field as he did that year. Forced fumbles, batted-down passes at the LOS, interceptions, punt returns, sacks. That level of versatility simply cannot be coached.
This is laughable. Patrick Peterson is better at every aspect of the game.

And we only saw TM7 for two seasons. As a true frosh and then his soph. year.
Yet he still owns LSU's record for forced fumbles (11).

OP didn't say in a decade. A generation is now considered 25 years.
Quote from Ancestry.com:
In general we think of a generation being about 25 years - from the birth of a parent to the birth of a child. We also generally accept that the length of a generation in earlier periods of history was closer to 20 years when humans mated younger and life expectancies were shorter.

You can quote all the articles you want, but when you yourself admit that he's not even the best player at his position within the last 5 years on 1 team in college football, it's a little absurd to say he is a once in a generation talent by the very definition of the phrase.
No one is arguing that he is not a damn fine player and was amazing in college. It's just in 10 or 15 to think of Tyrann Mathieu as one of the best to ever step on the field is laughable.
The phrase "once in a generation" implies that we are only referring to 15 to 10 players in the history of the game. And to lump Mathieu, or Peterson for that matter, in there is absurd.

Wrong, but thanks for caring. Caring a LOT apparently.

So i guess owning a school record that spans back as far the stats were kept doesn't mean anything either. Forget that he broke the record in two years, which were his true freshman and sophmore years.
Peterson and TM7 have are two different animals. There are things PP is better at than TM7. But there are things that TM7 does and did at LSU on a consistent basis that no one else has.

No, it doesn't. Not when considering how many schools there are out there that are just as old as LSU and have had just as many players come through. Hell, Khalil Mack's college career just ended and he has 11 forced fumbles. Does that make him a once in a generation player too?

Both are high caliber players and along with Peterson, Mathieu will probably make a few pro-bowls, but by no means are either once in a generation players. I think that's the point you keep missing.
Are you really trying to argue that either of these guys are one of the 10-15 best to ever play college football?

I'll add another one for Georgia - Champ Bailey.
Definitely once in a generation.
