As someone who has graduated from both places, I'll say this:
We have had more overall success but Miss. State has been further than we have. They've been to Atlanta. Our two best chances to make it were halted by that year's national champions, but I digress and wonder what Croom thought of those scholarships he lost because of Sherrill's antics.
They've been to Omaha. Our best chance was again halted by that year's national champions (Texas Longhorns) who didn't lose another game after losing to us. Their coach even said we were his hardest challenge. But, digressing once more, give credit where it is due.
I still wouldn't trade places with State. The campus is ugly, the people are arrogant and the degrees border triviality.

Didn't major in engineering and never had any classes in Swalm. The average Mississippi State student is far from arrogant IMO. There are some elitist but that's the norm at every college. Most of the people I met were regular down to earth people. One of my good friends who did major in engineering came from an extremely wealthy family, but you would never know it from just talking to and hanging out with him.

Well I've been hearing a lot of Ole Miss folks saying their new engineering building is gonna make their engineering program better than State's. Good Lord.
