Presents NCAA with self-imposed penalties of:
11 scholarships over 4 years - meh
Self-imposed fine of $154,325 - meh
Reduction in visits around 10-12% of total visits - meh

So for the sake of comparison, this is what we did under Mumme (which at the time the NCAA dubbed as "one of the more serious cases heard by the committee in recent years"):

quote:

The Wildcats, cited by the NCAA for more than three dozen recruiting violations, were banned from a bowl game next season and must forfeit a total of 19 scholarships over the next three years.

quote:

Kentucky can sign only 16 of a possible 25 recruits for next season (signing day is Tuesday), 18 the following season and 22 in 2004. During the probation, the Wildcats can only have a total of 80 players on scholarship -- five under the 85-player limit.

And that was from money orders showing payments from assistants to recruits, waiving camp fees for recruits, etc. Some pretty direct and widespread stuff. Mumme also resigned.

Does this count as "nothing happening", Ole Miss fans?

Major, MAJOR difference in self reporting minor violations. Come on Gnash, you're supposed to be the level headed Black Bear here

First off, I am entitled to a good melt when the time comes. Second, based on the history of the NCAA and its recent punishment of offenders why would I assume that our program is headed for destruction? I also don't think that OM would have offered its recommended punishment if it didn't already know what the NCAA was going to say. I am still in wait and see mode.

If some of y'all could take an arse-kicking like a man and not be crybabies then we wouldn't have had to spend any money on this petty crap. NOTHING in this NOA has given us a decided advantage.

Thanks.

Eh. creating enough red asses to make folks hope and dream for significant penalties for violations that haven't given us a competitive advantage. We all know the big wins are coming. That's why the crybabies are crying.

The NCAA is less likely to drop the hammer if a school self-reports ahead of an investigation. All of this came to light because of the NCAA coming to town because of your Women's Basketball team. No, you won't get the Death Penalty - but the NCAA might take a mid-tier program like Ole Miss as a way to "flex its muscle", so to speak. Don't expect to get away with what you self-imposed, not by a long shot.

No one ever knows this. I've seen pretty hefty self-imposed punishments get additional ones tacked on.

They may deserve more punishment, but there is no way OM will be competitive in the SEC for many many years once the scholarship reduction starts.

11 schollies? I'll say this, to Ole Miss thats like 19 or 20 but still not much.

Dont know what will happen but I saw an interview with Thomas Yeager who presided over our shite and if he was still in charge....
he was "bragging" about an incident under his watch where a player had a spouse die and the player wanted to go to the funeral but have it paid for by the school. He told the player the rules are the rules and if you do that I will hammer you. Then laughed. That guy was a friggin psychopath. There was zero. ZERO documented evidence in our Albert Means case but he took the testimony of Fulmer and ignored ours. Ole miss wouldn't recover if he was still in charge until about 2025. That a-hole took away our ability to compete from 02 to 07 and was proud to do it with not nearly the evidence he has on Ole Miss.
