Well I can't speak for the OP but I'm a Graduate student in Comparative Politics here. While I will say that both Wallace and Barnett were certainly a black eye on both of our states, it is evident that Wallace used segregation to get elected and to force himself on the national stage as a conservative option to the increasingly progressive Democratic Party at the time. While in Mississippi, Barnett's successors such as Johnson and Williams continued to drag their feet on complying with SCOTUS orders.

Complete poppycock.
Complete Revisionist history of the Racist Democratic Party. Democrats have been were and still are the racist party in the United States.
The Republican party always was the party of Civil Rights. Every meaningful piece of Race related Civil Rights Legislation was fought for and passed by Republicans, while at the same time Democrats overwhelmingly opposed it. It is a simple matter to research the votes.
The big switch as told by "progressives aka Democrats" is also a lie. Only 16 members of congress ever switched from Democrat to Republican from 1865 to present day.
The South did not switch to Republican over race. It did so over Religion.

You are a perfect example of why the internet is not for everyone. Think more, do less digging up bullshite versions of "history" from non=credible sources.

You also have to remember then state legislature is made up of mostly failed lawyers who graduated from Ole Miss so it's not surprising it took them so long to abolish it. They were always hoping for a return to "the good ole days".
