There is no good reason for either State or OM to play So. Miss. Such a match-up gives all of the benefits So. Miss and only provides State/Ole Miss risk of embarrassment.
This.
Thank you for not being like most other people by saying, "OM and State are scurred. hurr hurr hurr."

They are just trying to goad State/OM into a stupid decision.
It's just like Astate, they are constantly asking Arkansas to validate their program, to give it credibility. Some of their fans cheer for Astate first and whoever is playing Arkansas second. All dirt roads lead to Jonesboro.

I don't remember seeing that many dirt roads going from Starkville to Arkansas......but I'll take your word for it.

Ole Miss has said repeatedly we will play Southern Miss. We just won't play in Hattiesburg, period. When we say this USM immediately stops negotiations. There is no reason Ole Miss should travel to Hattiesburg to play them. It would be like LSU traveling to Ruston to play La. Tech. There's not a positive thing that can come out of it.
You just don't want to lose recruits anymore than you already are because you would get your asses handed to you. BOOOOM

You have to realize that the USM's and LaTech's of the world exist on scraps from te SEC. The talent level of these schools often isn't too far removed from the mid to lower level SEC schools. They just don't qualify for an SEC school or are academoc casualties of said schools

No school wants to play Southern in Hattiesburg in a dump stadium in front of 15,000 fans. Most schools will play them home and home anytime they want to come. No one is going to HB.

To Southern? Lose recruits to SOUTHERN?

No matter how good they are and how bad we are, we will always have the advantage over them. In-state recruits who can get into OM and State aren't going to give USM the time of day.

Again, you're only proving our point.
ETA: No, we wouldn't get our "asses handed to us" and no we wouldn't lose recruits to them. The point you're helping prove is that Ole Miss and State literally receive no significant benefit from playing Southern.

What about Anthony Alford? I would have liked to have him.

He's from that area and most likely to go to MLB, right?

Ok, that's one player. And he'll likely never play a down at Southern. 99% of the time, USM can't compete with OM and State in getting the best recruits in the state who can get in either school.

Alabama quit playing them in 2005. We had played them every year from 1980-2005. Every game was in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham. We also played them in Mobile and Montgomery in the 40s and 50s.

I agree with what you have said Henry, but I think Ole Miss could gain a lot from a win over USM right now. Would gain a lot of respect from people instate. Especially considering the state of the Ole Miss program right now.
Also, If I'm not mistaken, Kendrick Hardy had offers from State and OM but chose USM instead.

If we lose though it makes it worse though. We are playing Texas, Georgia Tech, and Clemson here in the near future. It's not like we are scared to play good teams. Plus by playing those schools, we don't risk getting embarrassed if we lose. And if we happen to win, it would do a lot more for our program image than a win against Southern Miss would.

Aside from a win, what could we gain?

Whose respect are we missing? What, are State and Southern fans going to "respect" us all of the sudden? Even if, why should we care?

I'm not sure of this particular situation. I'm sure you can find a few guys on Southern Miss' roster who had Ole Miss or State offers. Still, subtract those few from the team, and you still have 80-something guys who didn't come close to sniffing an SEC scholarship.
