I care too little about Clemson (like most of the nation) so I missed that. Link?

Here's the set-up. Spurrier had been fricking with Dabo's head after beating him a few years in a row.

(Spurrier had said, in an earlier press conference, that the real Death Valley was in the SEC, at LSU.)

Then Todd Ellis, the voice of the Gamecocks, said something about the game against the taterheads, after the third win in a row, that was misquoted and attributed to Spurrier rather than Ellis. (We ain't Alabama, we ain't LSU but we ain't Clemson). It was in response to something Dabo had said in response to Spurrier's comments about Death Valley. Spurrier didn't say it, (italics above) Ellis did, but Spurrier was so in Dabo's head by that time that Dabo was going nuts.

So the folks at taternet got together and started a thread about why Clemson was such a better program than SCAR and why SCAR would never be this or that and then the taternet writer printed it out (the response thread) for Dabo hours in advance then pitched him a softball during the interview that afternoon and here is the result ...

LINK

... and Spurrier has been spanking his arse every since and will continue to do so. He is so deep in Dabo's head that when Dabo goes to bed at night he dreams of one day beating Spurrier again.

Dabo has since regretted falling for the bait, apologized to Spurrier for attributing the quote to him rather than Todd Ellis ... and he keeps trying to do everything to turn the jinx around but it ain't helping.

Spurrier plays head games. Dabo bit hook line and sinker.

Spurrier says some clever things, but people get far too excited about some of the small quips he has. They aren't all hilarious, some are quite lame. It was downright sad when he was crying about schedules a few years ago.

"I think [Saban and Alabama have] done extremely well. There's no question about that. I just made a statement that I think they've had five number one recruiting classes out of the last six years, which has got to make him the greatest recruiter in the history of college football. Arguably, they've got the greatest collection of football players ever assembled for a college team. If the recruiting services are correct, and they're pretty much correct.

So they're the favorites. They're the favorites. There's no question about that. As long as they can recruit like that, they're always going to be the favorites.

I guess fortunately sometimes the team that plays the best is the team that wins instead of maybe who all has the best players.

I just mention that because it is amazing. When I was at Florida, we had two number one classes, 1991, Danny Wuerffel, all those guys, we had a bunch of players come in. The next year the guys said, Coach, you got too many players on Florida, I'm not going to get on the field.

But at Alabama they just keep signing them year after year after year. It's amazing. I give him credit for it. They do it the right way. He runs a good program. It's just amazing to me how they've been able to stack and keep loading up players every year. That's what I was just trying to mention. They're going to be the favorites. They got to be the favorites.

Now LSU is pretty good, too. Everybody else recruits very well also. But to be number one that much, that's just sort of amazing to me."
I see what Stevo is trying to imply and I think it's funny as hell. Keep Nick in that ole noggin Steve - don't ever let him out.

Saban has been at Bama 7 seasons. Math was never Spurrier's strong suit.

Yeah, I hear guys talking about early playing time at every school, but in most cases guys are sitting 2 years before they get on the field. How a coach can convince a recruit that he'll see the field early when he's behind other top players is amazing to me.

The players all think they are badasses and can beat out anyone.

And end up transferring to a FCS school after they realize they will not pass the upperclassmen, and the freshmen coming in are better too.

I think Spurrier feels obligated to take jabs even when he doesn't really have anything good.

Yes, he's jealous. He thinks because he's older, been coaching longer, he should be considered the best coach out there, but exactly what has he done in the last 10 years? He went to the SEC championship game 1 time, and that was because the East was so far down....and Auburn made it look like they should have saved their money and stayed home.
He really didn't do that much at Florida, and that was during a time when he was getting a lot of good players. I'm not saying that he is lazy by any means, but he doesn't want to work the long hours that Coach Saban does, so he makes fun of him for doing so.
What Spurrier needs to do is just take care of his own team, and not worry about what other coaches are doing, and how they do it.

Why do you say that? Miles plays more freshmen than just about anybody. Programs that know how to develope their talent can mix in the young guys with the veterans.

Some are supermen and they see the field early and often at LSU & Bama.

I think you're a taterhead alter.

I'll bet I'm more correct than are you.

Shall we put it to the test?

An SEC that was down quite significantly. Only 3 teams won the conference in the 90s (Tennessee, Florida and Alabama) compared to five in the 00s (Florida, LSU, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama).

Just to give you an idea of how down the SEC was during this period, the Florida Gators won the SEC Championship five times in the 1990s yet they were consistently the second or third best team in the state of Florida.

HBC haters gonna HBC hate.

Had no idea he had rustled gump jimmies this badly. Still prefer to think of it as having affected only the most easily butthurt of the Bama fan base.

It's hilarious that so many South Carolina fans are impressed with themselves because they have a coach that was highly accomplished somewhere else years ago.
It's like they're married to Bo Derek and they keep reminding everyone she was a 10 back in 1979.
