That doesn't change the fact that Saban has no clue at running an O besides handing the ball to a RB

I don't think he would've returned for his senior year had he known that Saban would go with a true frosh at QB.

OJ told AU "frick You." I would rather be under used at Bama than play for Auburn

Not arguing that. He out talents people and puts up big numbers. But Saban has a problem of wasting offensive talent. OJ and Julio are two examples. Amazing talent that was wasted at UA.

AU coaches told him this would happen.

Should've gone to Auburn instead of being a butthurt salty emotional bitch.
Yea, I'm sure he's jealous he didn't get to catch passes from Jeremy Johnson, Sean White and John Franklin in the incredible offenses Gus put on the field the last 2 seasons.
Probably regrets it every single day.

Julio Jones was the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year, won a national and SEC title, went 36-5 in his career and was the #6 pick in the NFL draft. He seemed to do ok.

I mean, did you read the OP? I don't think it's a stretch to think maybe he regrets going to Bama.

And wishes he had gone to Auburn?
Auburn tight ends had 2 catches for 16 yards in 2015 and 2016. Combined.

I hear ya. Howard is better than every TE on AU's roster though, and he grew up an AU fan. I wouldn't be shocked if he has wondered from time to time.
hell Gus would probably put him at slot

I wouldn't be surprised if he wonders about how he might have been used some other places, but I doubt he longs for playing in the cluster fvck of an offense Gus was putting together the last 2 seasons.
Who knows.

His straightline speed is incredible for a guy his size, but he is pretty stiff and doesn't run the best routes. He seemed to round off a lot of his routes, especially in the endzone. He should've been more of a threat this year, but with no vertical threat there were too many safeties and LBs close to the line of scrimmage and it seemed like he caught quite a few passes that where he was dropped almost immediately.
I will freely admit that I may be way off, but that's what my highly uneducated view of the issue was.

How did the Alabama Crimson Tide not find a way to use tight end O.J. Howard more often? Even he doesn’t know.
“I have no idea, honestly man,”
Me either. Baffled me for 3 years.

And was underutilized.

He will be a star in the NFL -- and he was underutilized by Kiffin -- anyone could see that. Best of luck to him

Not just your fanbase, O.J. Howard is amazing and a sure thing in the draft. Fun to watch and seems to be a great kid

It's because the TE position doesn't exist in most spread offense systems if the OC is using old school spread concepts and lacks creativity. If a team does have a TE, most spread OCs will use them inline as an extra blocker because they're either too lazy, or lack the creativity, to incorporate an athletic TE into a spread attack. We had that problem here for years, especially under Heupel, who has no creativity of any kind and is actually a very lazy person.
The emergence of the spread offense has nearly made the TE position go extinct due to lack of usage and as a result, lots of spread OCs don't know what to do with a TE. Kiffin was creative in last year's title game in lining up Howard more as an H back and slipping him out of the backfield to devastating effect. That's creativity and Clemson was clearly not prepared for it.
If you want to see a spread offense that EXCELS at using TEs, put on some tape of the New England Patriots and watch how they use Gronkowski. That's how it's done. That's what we're implementing here.

But short passes should be utilizing the tight end. I think Kiffin just underutilized him.
For some reason many teams seem to not use the tight ends for whatever reason. This was the first year in a while that LSU targeted the tight ends and got some big
plays out of them.
As for O.J after last years Championship game I was sure he was in for a big year, don't make sense.
