I would make Cotton major always. I would also add the Citrus bowl as it is the equivalent for the East to what the Cotton bowl is to the West at least the last 20 years or so.

You can't add a bowl as a major bowl if Spurrier rustled your entire fan base about it.

Lol. That's how you end that debate.

The fact he removed those years for the cotton bowl is what I like most about this list. The Fiesta bowl screwed them, and took the better regarded teams to become a major bowl.

The only hiccup going forward, is there are a lot of supposed major bowls with the addition of the playoffs. But the list doesn't mean anything, dip key a couple extras teams pat themselves on the back.

I'm pretty shocked by Auburn. I figure that's why there's a noticeable lack of them itt. No troll, but it's shocking. They have the best record against us in the conference. They've had some damn good teams over the years. Have they had a lot of major bowl losses?

Good job on the thread idea op.

But the Cotton wasn't major from 96-14, and the Citrus never was. Too bad some teams got screwed out of a major bowl in certain years. The bowl system isn't fair sometimes, but it is what it is. The OP has the major games and dates exactly how they should be.

1972 Sugar Oklahoma 22-40
1986 Cotton Texas A&M 16-36
1988 Sugar Syracuse 16-16
1989 Sugar Florida State 7-13
2014 BCS Championship Florida State 31-34

There's also 1957 (SEC champs but banned from bowling) and 1993 (11-0 but banned from postseason play).
