Have to agree with you on this. This also pertains to another thread about whether he should be expelled (or atleast suspended) or not. Yes he should be, and without hesitation.
This current climate and generation doesn't have a clue how ugly this word is. Never in my lifetime did I think black people would use this word so carelessly towards other blacks, or whites for that matter. It's as derogatory as anything in the english language.
