I'm sorry not everyone speaks like an "educated" "civilized" business man.
There is a way to represent yourself, and a way NOT to. JW just did the latter no matter the type of individual with whom you equate coherent speech.

Kids job is to play football at the moment which he does fine.
No one is debating this.

I'm sure his emotions were also high.
Irrelevant. He had plenty of time to prepare for an award he was virtually assured of winning.
quote:
Seriously, any one who gives a shite how he talks has issues.
I'm embarrassed for him. It's a damn shame no one took it upon themselves to to see to it that he could at least represent himself better than that in one of his proudest moments.
It's sad.

well he did just say "y'all tripping" so I'm sure he's uneducated too
And yet you understood his meaning perfectly so would that make you both uneducated?

understanding slang or trashy phrases as well as normal, intelligent vocabulary doesn't make me uneducated.

You're acting like he got up the and "Shout'out to all da homies like down in da Pen". He's no Langston Hughes but he wasn't speaking in tongue either
Of course it could always have been worse. But that was bad by any measure.

BTW, have you ever hear Jimbo talk? He won't be taking home any orator awards either.
And that's a shame in and of itself. But Jimbo wasn't the one who had to give an acceptance speech tonight.

No.
19 years old is plenty old enough to speak intelligently. He's a grown man, for frick's sake
Johnny was 19 years old last year and seemed to do fine
ETA: Actually, I lied. I believe he'd just turned 20. I know he has a December birthday so I apologize on that one.

My point was that "dumb redneck" is just as bad as "dumb black youth" Both stereotypes do a disservice to the true intelligence and accomplishments of a person

I never uttered those words, nor did I ever compare the two.

Observing that someone represents themselves poorly in their elocution is not denigrating their intelligence nor their accomplishments.

My comments aren't directed specifically towards you. Go back and read everyone's comments and tell me what conclusion you would draw
Either way why can't we have fun with the Jaboo/Jimbo comparison. I feel like this was a very clever connection I made and am disappoint I have not received more props for

That we were disappointed that that young man was so ill prepared for the greatest individual moment in his collegiate career.

You know what? You're right, that shouldn't have gone unnoticed
