Why does it seem like A&M has always been in the SEC?

By you including A&M as a flagship, you have to include Auburn. Auburn and UA are two separate systems

Because we should have been here long ago, IMO

FSU or Louisville

I think the ship has sailed for FSU being in the SEC. At one time it made sense from a competitive standpoint, now they would bring very little to the table (TV Market). I think USF/UCF would be more appealing to the SEC in the next 5 years. The SEC will go after OU and TX with the next expansion.

Just curious, but who said it's all about academics?
Endowments, intensity of research (and funding), number & caliber of doctoral degree-granting programs, resources, infrastructure, and faculty are all relevant as well.
Sure, the above variables typically result in quality outcomes, but there isn't some kind of "academics" metric.

Especially when they had the chance and turned it down.

Maybe Auburn is designated by Alabama as a flagship?
I have no clue.
In Texas, being a flagship isn't subjective; the state gives the designation.

When our population is about the same as Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia combined, I think we can have 2 flagships.

You have a funny way of spelling UNC and UVA.

That's not the case in the GREAT Lone Star state. Texas has many school systems but only two flagships.

a&m uses the sec to stay competitive with University of Texas. If you swapped the schools out then Texas would become a juggernaut and crush a&m and most likely the rest of the sec. I like a&m, but there's no denying who the flagship school is in Texas.

In reality A&M is too similar to Texas to be a distinct flagship. They're slowly becoming Texas light.

TTU is probably the other rising power. They're conservative, truly Texan, and distinct enough from UTA. They're the old world Texas to UTA's progressive brand.

I realize it's a troll ... but in reality, the University of Houston--and even Texas State--is farther along in the quest for Tier I/"flagship" status.
Both universities (UH & TSU) are making greater gains in research than is TTU.
Since you seem interested, you could Google it.
Several articles have been written on the subject.

You don't know what a flagship school really is.
