I would love to see Spurrier go back to Florida after Muschamp leaves this year. Oh how much I would LOOOOOOVE that.

Asking why a coach keeps comparing his school to mine = rustled? I think the rant really overuses that word and it's lost it's effectiveness. Nice deflection, btw

SOS is a MASTER at getting into the heads of his opponents. Dont think for a minute he doesnt know what he is doing.

Spurrier has had enough success and is of an age where he legitimately does not give a frick. He is right. There is more to life. its also a recruiting tool to suggest to recruits that there is more to college than what Nick Saban may be selling.

Pretty good marketing strategy and I think SOS likes fricking with the heads of certain folks.

He's the only coach with a winning record vs Saban.
Tuberville and Gus both have a winning record against him.

I would too as odd as that sounds. Hatin' on Steve made things soooooo much more fun and he knew that and obliged us. Fulmer and Spurrier were great for fans of both teams and made for a great pairing. I miss it and I never thought I would. I'd really hoped that Muschamp could fill those shoes and make us hate him but so far he hasn't managed to do that.

Random thoughts:

Perhaps Spurrier is concerned with how the advent of CNS's success will affect his legacy. Think of it this way: Had CNS never made his way back to college football, CSS would be considered by many as the unrivaled greatest coach in tSEC of this era. Now everyone is focused more on CNS's success than CSS even though what they accomplished is very different. One rebuilt a program from shambles where the other built a program from the ground up.

Second thought is his recruiting remarks. I know it's impossible for CSS to recruit at the level of Alabama just because of the lack of resources, but has South Carolina really tapped out their recruiting potential? Just last year we went in to South Carolina and got a 5* linebacker from Spurrier's backyard. How much more money do you think it costed Alabama to recruit in South Carolina versus how much it costs South Carolina to recruit their state?

Wasn't there also a five star running back who wanted to go to South Carolina, but Steve Spurrier didn't show up to meet with him while he was on campus?

This thread actually turned into a halfway decent debate/conversation

He said that if he had top 5 classes every year then his expectations would be much higher like Saban then 2 SECs in 8 years wouldn't cut it.

He has a point. Spurrier does more with less and Saban does less with more, considering how much talent each school brings in and the history involved at each school etc.

Its brand new subject for tHBC. Hes said before that guys that go to a powerhouse school should be judged differently than guys that go to mediocre schools in terms of success.

eta- its HBC, not OBC

What about Spurrier's time at Florida when he had everything he could need as far as recruiting resources. How many NCG's did he have? One?

He cared more about golf than preparation and recruiting.

People forget that UF didn't win an SEC until Spurrier was HC and that the bowl system in place during most of the 90s didn't benefit conference champs like the BCS did.

eta- And regardless of national titles, Spurrier won 6 or 7 conference champs in his 12 years at UF.

Saban has won 2 in 8 years at Bama and never won consecutive conference titles. People fawn over his titles when in reality had Okie State beaten Iowa State then the SEC's streak would have ended 1/12 not 1/14

While USCe's football facilities aren't on par with Alabama's...particularly Williams-Brice Stadium...the state of South Carolina is booming economically. That state is seeing some population growth as well.

The state of Alabama, on the other hand, is in real danger of being passed economically by Mississippi. Let that sink in for a moment.

My point is, things change. They are changing. Spurrier has South Carolina in a place they've never been before. Back-to-back 11 win seasons.

USCe needs to prepare now for Spurrier's replacement. Williams-Brice Stadium needs upgrading. There's no excuse for a program as successful as the Gamecocks are to only have 18 suites in their football stadium. In the SEC, only Vandy has less suites...and they have none.

The good news is, USCe is making some progress...

...but more are needed. I hope we see that investment made soon. South Carolina's time is now. Don't wait any longer.
