I sure hope LSU doesn't beat us this year after everyone has already decided who the winner will be.

LSU took over Auburn's lil bro status with Bama. it was simply all they cared about

Saban surpassed LSU, that's for sure, but I think LSU has done a lot of damage with themselves in cases such as Alleva. In the past couple of seasons, Les Miles was hovering around a .500 record in the SEC. This did not sit well with fans.

Now, we see Alleva give Orgeron the job with a 12 million buy out. Did Saban pass LSU with Bama and contribute to our downturn, yes. Was he the only and largest reason, no.

What does this even mean? It's not close to reality.

The fundamental difference is that Saban didn't create Alabama, he merely pulled it out of a recent, short-lived slump.

Didn't understand it when it happened and still don't. Why would you give Orgeron a $3.5m salary with a $12m buyout? Even if he were super successful, I doubt any school would think they could lure him away from that job. The guy would have accepted $1.5m and no buyout, no doubt in my mind.

It's like Alleva put an offer on the table for Tom Herman and when the negotiating started he just turned around and wrote Orgeron's name on the same offer. I get that the optics aren't good by going "cheap" and having a head coach that makes $1m in the SEC, but the optics were already bad.

These ADs are foolish, not just Alleva. They seem to put a price on the position rather than put a price on the candidate. They say "this is a $X million per year job" and think they'll magically get results.

I'm afraid once Nick Saban hangs it up, Greg Byrne (or his successor) will say "Alabama is a premiere job in the country so we are going to pay our coach $7m/year" regardless of whether or not the eventual replacement is worth anywhere near that.

it is reality, LSU was stuck on Bama and losing to them, the only thing that mattered was beating bama. You had good seasons, albeit not championships, but still good, and the only take aways from your fanbase were you lost to Bama.

That would be just our luck to win when we're not even trying...

LSU judged their seasons on how they faired against bama.

Hell you could argue that saban kept it close last year just so they would hire Coach 0.

Joe Alleva has done a lot more damage to this program then Nick Saban did.

I would say no, Saban did not break LSU. Saban set a standard and LSU Administration chose to try to uphold that standard with subpar replacements. LSU broke LSU.
