They'll try to spin a bad hire.

When has recruiting been an issue for LSU?
DT and LB recruiting has been lacking greatly the last two classes....we don't even have one commit for 2015 that is a LB/DT. BUT we have a few stud LB/DL coming in this weekend for a big recruiting weekend that I'm Steele/O will have the pleasure of meeting

Does this take a bit of the sting out of yesterday - for me yes it does. Recruiting got an upgrade -and thankful he did not end up elsewhere in the SEC - just to come into his native state and hand pick players.
Someone mentioned LSU recruits itself - that is not really true - look at what Saban did when he first got to LSU - closed the borders - in the 90's we had studs leaving the state left and right to go elsewhere. So - having ORgeron is a great boost, and keeps as much talent in state as possible.
However - there has not really been an issue of talent for LSU - it is the development of that talent that has been the problem - obviously on offense. There is going to have to be some serious changes this spring to make me believe we will see an improved offensive unit next fall.

I'm not sure one could make a reasonable argument for Steele even being a top 10 DC in this league.
O is a good hire for recruiting, I guess.

Brick is a very good recruiter when he puts the work in. Lord knows Chavis relied on him to pull his weight for several recruits we were after over the last few years. Brick is definitely an asset to our recruiting efforts

This LSU fan has come to the conclusion that, in recent years, our reputation for recruiting has exceeded actual results. I do believe that a stronger recruiting staff is big for us, especially since Chavis wasn't known as an elite recruiter. Give us more Bama- and Georgia-quality players and I'll worry about the x-and-o coaching less.

In terms of recruiting, yes. X's and O's, nah man.
Well good thing for us then that recruiting is like 90% of the game.

quote:Apparently you didn't watch football in late 80's and early 90's because those dominant D-Lines that the U had, yea they were coached by Coach O. Coach O has coached more first round D-lineman than any coach in college football. So your argument about his success only being under Pete Carroll is invalid...please try again!!
Sorry, but hiring Kevin Steele and a buffoon who was really only successful under Pete Carroll is still not an upgrade over Chavis

Negative.
Have you seen our DL production over the past few years, especially on pass rush?
