I thought he was a solid hire at the time. But,man, they are going nowhere in a hurry. Alabama has a pretty good basketball tradition. They deserve better than this.

Grant will be fired in a year anyways. There is nothing realistic he could do next year to keep his job. Hell, even if he went from 13-19 to 19-13 next year, that would be a huge improvement, but not enough to keep his job.

I'm not sure how you could be more wrong.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees that there will be any quality coaches available next year. This year you have one of about as good quality as we have a chance at sitting there as a free agent. Retaining him another year and missing out on even the possibility of replacing him with Pearl is 100% ironclad evidence that Bill Battle neither cares for, nor has any fricking business in our athletic department. He is a strict business man and nothing more.
Son, there's one thing that you've got to realize. The University of Alabama wouldn't consider Bruce Pearl as a coaching (nor anything else) candidate in a 100 years!...so you need to quit sulking over that. I agree about a coaching change, but it's been a known fact that Grant was going to get one more year regardless of how they finished.

I refuse to believe that. He is a fantastic coach that really didnt even commit that horrible of a violation until he tried to lie and cover it up. Had he just owned up to it they would have more than likely gotten a slap on the wrist for the most part with MAYBE some very light, if any, sanctions. They axed him to ATTEMPT to strike fear into everyone.

And to whoever said that about Saban not allowing him near the program because of the NCAA then you are a fricking idiot. He PERSONALLY hired Kiffin after he accrued what surely had to be a record number of secondary violations while he was at UT.

then you are just setting yourself up for frustration. 0% chance Pearl goes to Bama.

Also, Grant was truly hurt by Pollard and Lacey leaving. If you can't see that then I don't know what to say. If we have those two we are at least a .500 team and probably would have won 70% of the games we lost by 10 or less

I definitely understand what you are saying, but I contribute the shittiness of this year to those underlying causes. Hopefully we can win 22+ games and get in the tournament

I dont wanna just make the tournament, I wanna make deep runs. I wanna be in the mix. I wanna eventually win championships in basketball like we do in football, softball, golf, and gymnastics. Its depressing when your school is awesome at like 4-5 sports and none of them are the one that really gets your blood pumping. I rarely even watch during the season anymore its so bad. I listen to us play on the radio every chance I get but even that stopped happening this year because I ended up just getting mad when we would blow double digit leads nearly every game.

The tournament is about to start so at least I'll get a few weeks of blood pumping excitement out of that but as usual, it will be without seeing my team in any of it.

It just fricking sucks and I dont think its too much to ask for a athletic department like Alabama's to hire a homerun basketball coach. Its not. And if you think it is then you are just wrong.

Then why post in a basketball thread? The OP is just venting his frustrations.

Keeping Tony will just make fans of Basketball like me not give a shite. Can't wait to see the crowds at Coleman next season. Embarrassing.

exactly. Halfway through the season I realized there was no chance for improvement this year and I did something I have never done before, I started cheering against us. It was better for the overall state of the program to lose and fire the coach than win and stay stagnant. Then lo and behold, the worst of both options happened. We lost AND WE STILL KEPT THE frickING COACH.

If they would move the fricking student section from behind the basket to behind the benches then maybe we would get better looking crowds on tv because students actually came to the games

The league is so weak the next few years,

LOL what?

Several teams return their entire core rosters next year as they have been playing fresh/sophs.

Florida is the only senior led team in the SEC.

Kentucky is likely to have a large number return next year compared to years past.

Tennessee and LSU may be the only ones who may be hurt by guys leaving early.

Yes it would. Moore was just as bad (probably worse) at not pulling the plug when it was needed

All you need is a TCU to think your coach is a great hire.
