Question for someone on this board who likes giving straight answers...what was this board's attitude towards A&M in 2012? We were newcomers and we had yell leaders, but we had a great season: beat the #1 team in the country on the road, had the first-ever freshman Heisman trophy winner, kicked OU's tails in the Cotton Bowl. Obviously, things have devolved greatly since then (it actually made me sad to realize that that was arguably the greatest season in A&M's history post-WWII), and we are much hated. However, what was it like back in 2012/2013?

You were considered to be the acceptable addition in comparison to Missouri's really random selection considering the existing history with multiple SEC schools. We still thought you were weird, but were seen widely as the "better fit" of the two.

Then the new wore off.

In general, most were against the expansion entirely.

I wasn’t on the board but I had to listen to my Aggie coworker in the very next office all day who would sit in my guest chair and tell me how awesome it was while still being respectful to Mizzou. Revenge the next year was quite nice.
Seeing Michael Sam pummel Johnny Football was a great moment in life.

I was only a lurker back then.. but here is a good thread for you..

Cotton Bowl game thread

The search function is a little bit tricky, but works pretty good once you figure out how it works..

Most of us had no idea about TAMUs Yell Leaders and culture. I think most of us thought you were a good enough program but none of us wanted expansion. Mizzou took most of the heat though.

Texas was trying to be a "network" channel on Cable TV.

Missouri was a new territory which promised St. Louis and Kansas City.

Texas A&M was a cool pick...but fizzled out in three years.

As did Missouri.

I would argue MIZ more imploded than fizzled out.
We had our star QB convert to cokehead right before all the fav rRant talking points.

I thought A/M brought a lot of worth right away. They hosted Florida early in the season. Tight game against LSU. Game of the year candidate upsetting Alabama. QB won the heisman.

It was a big year to make a big splash.

Missouri gave every single bit of their entire University's energy to join the Big-10, and got rejected.

There were many new aggie posters come in when you joined, few are left if that tells you anything.

That was our Governor, not our university. He did talk some mad shite about not wanting to be affiliated with TTU or OSU though.

Texas A&M threw money. I never knew about them until expansion, but they threw "oil money" in millions for some reason. They must have really hated the Big-12. It seemed lucrative, exciting and exotic at the time.

I’ll be as honest as I can.

I grew up in Texas in a Longhorn family. I’ve always found aTm annoying. As of late, UT fans on here aren’t much better. It was refreshing to leave the state for school and deal with other rivals, Ole Miss, Bama, Auburn, the like. I didn’t like 2012 expansion and don’t like the new expansion. I don’t care about playing Texas or OU. I hate that the Tiger Bowl won’t be every year. At least with aTm there was SOME history. UT and aTm are more alike than they want to admit. They talk a big game, constantly bring up money, and can’t stop comparisons with the other.

The newbs aren’t “southeast”. I hate that the conference has sacrificed its cultural identity for the almighty dollar, but that’s all of college sports these days.

Aggy made such a splash in 2012. I’m surprised they didn’t capitalize in a big way. That was arguably their best season in the conference.
