The hate disappears when you think another program is no longer a threat to you. Kind of the same reason not many people hate Aggie

I can see that at a macro level, the more they build up Tenn and ignore Barn the more it pisses off Barn Fans (that certainly consider Bama to be their #1 rival). Bama wouldn't be the first team to do this.
The only problem with this theory is that when a rival ignores another rival its usually for someone better. If Bama focused on LSU because they considered Auburn to be beneath them then I could understand the tactic. But instead Bama points at the husk that is Tenn and says "we still love that more than you." It makes no sense.

Because in a way we want them to be back. Tennessee has sucked for a long time now and while we've enjoyed the hell out of it, the game used to be one we looked forward to.

However, I think bama fans actually like Tenn for the most part. They are always complimenting them and seem to pull for them to do well most of the time.
It isn't a real rivalry IMO. Just some sort of weird one way homo vibe from bama to UT IMO. UT doesn't seem to like bama, so appears to be a one way thing.

This is pretty true. The moment before the second blocked FG in 2009, I hadn't hated Tennessee so badly in years.
Looking back, I want more TSiO games like that.

Look, I don't like the perm rival thing either. But as much as I joke about the REC running the SEC, it seems LSU fans put WAY too much on the Bama/Tenn game.
What keeps the perm rival thing going is that game PLUS GA/Barn PLUS all the lower teams wanting each other guaranteed on the schedule. Most SEC teams voted for the perm rivals so its not just Bama and not just this game.
Even if that was it that has no bearing on why here on the Rant, where nothing matters, they still defend Tenn. Its not like the SEC Front Office is going to read some post on here and say "yeah that clinched it, we have to defend that game."

We were paired with Tennessee back after the 1st expansion before the 92 season.
That was before Florida blew up in the mid 90's. At the time we were actually getting screwed because Tennessee was the best program in the SECe. Both teams didn't care because we wanted to play the game.
Also Auburn was getting Georgia who was very good in the 80's leading up tp expansion.
It's not our fault Florida went off.

Yeah, I do think they try and do that. Can't say it is really annoying though. Just sorta humorous that bama fans try so hard when it has anything to do with their Daddy (AU).

It seemed to start with Dooley IMO. Bama fans HATED Fulmer for busting them on cheating.
I remember back when Dooley was hired, Bama fans were tripping over themselves to explain how Dooley was a Saban protege and UT would be competing for championships in no time

Good point. They really didn't seem to like UT with Fulmer, but they did start liking them when Dooley came along.

frick UT. There's no other team I'd rather beat. They are my #1 rival by far.
