throughout Richt's career I would imagine we are pretty good against ranked teams
here is '01-'07

sec ranked opponents
14-13

all ranked opponents
17-13

bowls
5-2

so, career at uga:
sec ranked opponents
19-24

all ranked opponents
23-27

bowls
8-4

the bowl record is good. other than that, his record is atrocious.

we're comparing coaches, not programs.

I hope you don't think hovering around 50% is noteworthy because it isn't. not even in the sec. spurrier, miles, saban, meyer are all significantly better. I would be willing to bet fulmer is too.

Over time, if you're going 50% against ranked opponents, then you're probably averaging about 10-2 and in the top 12-15. That's not optimal, but far from atrocious.

The thread is about richt and his time at georgia (13 years).

1... maybe 2 teams have done it better over the past 13 seasons.

This season is looking to be pretty strong in richt's favor, too.

it just depends on what you find acceptable. Of course vandy fans would be ecstatic about that. Any of the top sec teams would likely be disappointed.

LSU has never trailed UGA HTH in this millenium, and leads in the all time HTH.

You also have to remember we played twice in the Georgia dome. Haven't had many in tiger stadium.

2003 LSU got up 2-0.

04,05,08 UGA goes up 3-2.

Yay math.

I'm a huge UGA fan. Went there. My son goes there now, but until Richt can bring home a championship, this list means very little. UGA continues to be a very good team most years, but never a great team.

Damn, looks like I will have to expand the running list of fictions that LSU fans cling to. LSU is a major program, I hope my school can bring home some MNC's soon like yall have recently, but can you see that it takes away any debating credibility when you have multiple posters repeating the following as facts?:

-Richt is 5-16 vs. ranked SEC opponents since 08
-Saban said he wants to coach 3 different teams to BCS titles
-Richt admitted it was a mistake to kick Mett off the team
-LSU has never trailed UGA HTH in this millenium

4-12 isn't that far off though.

08: 0-2 (L to UF, L to Alabama)
09: 0-2 (L to UF, L to LSU)
10: 0-4 (L to AU, L to Arkansas, L to MSU, L to USC)
11: 0-2 (L to LSU, L to USC)
12: 2-2 (L to Alabama, L to USC, W over UF, W over VU)
13: 2-0 (W over LSU, W over USC)

So much fail. MSU wasn't ranked when we played them in 2010 and Auburn was ranked when we beat them in 2011.

As I've said many times, Richt has plenty of terrible moments (obviously losing to unranked MSU is a big one), but for whatever reason people think that means you can just throw out bogus numbers about Richt. RICHT IS 2-147 VS. RANKED TEAMS!!!!!!!!!

Da fuq?

Tagalongs are nowhere near the same level as Thin Mints or Samoas. This is from a huge Tagalong fan mind you. My dog and I both love peanut butter.

Tagalong and shortbread are second tier girl scouting at best.

Out of curiosity, what is Les Miles record against ranked opponents over the last 13 years?

Finished ranked 4th in nation last year. Is that more good or great? Or to be great do you have to win the Natty? If so, there are a lot of other teams that are not great. Once you go down that road, how often do you have to win the Natty in order to be considered great? 3 out of 4? then Alabama is the only team in the nation to be considered great. Once? Do you really consider Auburn to be great? Then you have to go to how often do you have to win the Natty?

In short, a program that consistently finishes in the top 10 is pretty darn good, I would say.
