Kinda is. The government's job isn't done when the investigation is done. They still have to prosecute and fight their way through high-powered lawyers, endless delays, and political pressure. That's where the bottomless pockets come in.

what is the FED conviction rate?

adidas and under armour are poor

Addidas had a 2016 gross income of 9 BILLION on 19.29 BILLION in sales.

They're not as big as Nike (32B in sales), but they're far from poor.

And as far as buying their way out, Bernie Madoff had a net worth of $17B and he's in prison right now.

Nike has Jordan, KD and Bron. Why in the hell do they need to fish for the up and comers? Their name alone will draw the top athletes. Adidas and UA are playing from behind and need to get a jump on the next wave of kids so I can understand them getting out ahead and doing this.

It's way into the 90s.

Having said that, money helps for sure BUT these companies aren't going to be spending it to defend these executives. They'll be spending it to put them under the bus so the feds keep digging.

Nike will gladly sacrifice a couple of upper level managers to appease the feds.

Like others have pointed out, the part that everyone should worry about is that the NCAA is basically having the FBI do all of their investigative work. Nike may be able to fend of a lot of the federal stuff, but the NCAA will be very well equipped to do their thing.

The best thing that can happen is for pretty much everyone to get caught.

Their name recruits for itself. They have had the basketball shoe game cornered for over 30 years. They just have to ask for a meeting to present what they can offer and a huge check and it may be a done deal.

How do you think they got these players in the first place?
Sonny Vaccaro, do some research on him.

That was essentially my point. They're going to gather all this evidence, but they're not going to bring down Nike itself or the PTB. Nike and top executives will shield themselves, and that's because they have lots and lots of money.

One assumes that prosecution rate relies heavily on people who aren't billionaires, like mid-level drug dealers, terrorists, kidnappers, RICO violators, etc. They can bring big fish down, but what big fish are they going to go after for crimes that don't even sniff the stratosphere of, say, Enron executives? ANd remember all those bank and Wall Street people who got thrown in jail during the last recession? Yeah, me neither.

Because if Adidas offers a bigger check, they will lose the deal.

Nike isn't so much bigger than other companies that they can get complacent. Steph Curry and Tom Brady signed with Under Armour, for example.

The feds do a mass sweep all at once so others won't destroy evidence. Wouldn't you think the feds working on something for 2 yrs would wait a little longer to get the goods on everybody and get them all at once.

Please

Or maybe they just got access to these agents computers? The FEDS can't just get a warrant for the hell of it. They had to have a reason, and a court order, to confiscate Nike property.

Look, I am for one think AU didn't benefit from this "raid". But you have to admit that the feds are tying up loose ends now.

NCAA? As a Bama fan you can never tell what they will do
