This question is more for the older guys on the rant to be honest.

There have been some really good all time coaching matchups in the past. Not gonna try and think of 100 good examples but PBB vs. Paterno. Pretty much the GOATs of CFB and they played many times from the 60s to just 4 years ago. 700+ wins between the two and 8 claimed national championships.

With Nick and Urban you have 7 national championships, 7 SECCG wins, 300+ wins, and 4 matchups they've played between each other. THREE of those decided the eventual national champion. They both have perfect records in national championships as well.

So even though they've only played 4 times....would you say this is one of the top coaching battles ever or at least in recent history?

Most of that info is off the top of my head, so if something is incorrect, feel free to call me on it.

Nick has the edge but only slightly.

Plus Meyer is 12 years younger..

Can't go wrong with either, by far the best two coaches in college football.

Who can forget this gem?

Bowden vs Spurrier has to be #1. From 1991-2000, they coached against each other 13 times. In all 13 matchups, both teams were ranked in the top 10 when they played each other. Plus the two coaches generally disliked each other and were part of an intense in-state rivalry. It'll be a long time before that coaching matchup gets topped.

This really isn't asking who is better. More or less where their series of games stands in the grand scheme of football. Like the poster from earlier with Bowden and Spurrier.

I think they are even. Both quit on a team when the going got tough. And, the two teams that they quit on are both located in Florida.

How many major bowl wins, conference championships and top 5 finishes does Meyer and Saban have between them? Bowden and Spurrier have 14 major bowl victories, 19 conference championships and 20 top 5 finishes.

Meeting in the CFBP back to back years would really escalate it. Would make it 4th time they met in what was essentially a national semifinal

It really should be six. The 2011 national championship was a gift. Everybody knows that. And Switzer/Osborne won a combined six national championships with four perfect seasons. They didn't rely on other teams to take care of business for them like an unranked UCLA team beating USC in 2006 or Iowa State beating Oklahoma State in a crazy overtime game in 2011.

Bowden leads Spurrier 2-1. They're not even in same ball park with some others. It's not a State of Florida thing.

I hate Saban with the heat of a 1000 burning suns, but Meyers can't hold his jockstrap.

Not that my opinion matters in the grand scheme of things, but I completely disagree. Saban may have Meyer 4-3 in national championships, but Meyer's 2006 and 2014 championships were both more impressive than Saban's best in 2009. 2006 was a huge upset and simultaneously started the SEC's championship dominance as well as the Big 10's era of ineptitude. Then last year he won it all with a team from a conference that had been a laughing stock and the butt of a decade of jokes.

Meyer never got the luxury of a rematch against a team that beat him that year. So there's that...
