Nick Marshall vs Michael Vick - College Stats

I heard someone mention that Nick Marshall had better stats than Michael Vick in college, so I decided to look it up. I also threw in Russell Wilson and Pat White for comparison. Here are their CFB-reference pages: Marshall, Vick, Wilson, White.
All three of those QBs were drafted in the first three rounds and two of them started 30+ games and made pro bowls. Did Nick Marshall have a shot at QB in the NFL?

Vick played in a pro-style offense at VTech.

He is a dynamic athlete with a cannon of an arm.
That being said, he is not a prototypical QB.
Most GM's are looking for Andrew Luck not RG3.
That being said, Philly or Carolina or even Seattle could sign him as a DB and have him be the 3rd QB.
I would guess NM will be an UDFA as a DB. Diamond in the rough.
NM is a tremendous competitor and I would be surprised if he did not make a roster in the NFL.

Haven't checked but isn't Marshall taller and weighs more than the other 3. I would think that makes a difference also?

Take into consideration the overall talent level at VA Tech when Vick was there VS the overall talent level at Auburn now, there's no comparison.

Yep,
Nick is close to 6'2 205
Vick is 6' 210
Pat white is 6' 185
Danger Russ is 5'10 200
I think he should have continued to train for both. If he failed at QB, the NFL is always in the market for a 6'2 Corner...
The NFL is a trendy league and right now the best team in the league has the best defense with tall, physical corners.

Only TWO other tech offensive players were drafted in 2000 and 2001, and that was a Guard and RB. Neither of which even made a scout team.

Wilson can play from the pocket, while Vick and White couldn't. I don't think Marshall can either. Marshall can sit in the pocket and launch go routes all day, but I don't think for a second he can sit back there in the face of an an NFL pass rush and find his third read.

Andre Davis was drafted in 2002 and spent 9 seasons in the NFL. Also, Lee Suggs was a productive back in college - 1200 yds and 27 TDs in 2000.

I have no clue how good he will be at CB but I am very glad Alabama never has to see him at QB again.
It appears to be a good indicator why I write software instead of evaluating NFL talent.

Someone mentioned the Panthers which I think would be a good fit. They have Joe Webb right now as 3rd QB/ST and Im %1000 certain Nick Marshall would be a better punt returner than Brentin Bersin.
Also, Roman Harper and Thomas Decoud in the secondary he couldnt be much worse

IMO Marshall's skill set is the most similar to Pat White's. I understand that you were comparing stats just for fun, but it really isn't the best way to compare players due to the huge difference in schemes and how much the college game has changed from 2000 to 2014.
Personally, I would much rather have Marshall than the likes of Ryan Lindley, Logan Thomas, Connor Shaw etc. However, I find it hard to believe that the league would ever give him a shot seeing as Terrell Pryor, a superior athlete, could not make a roster this season.

Hell I would rather have him than most of the dudes the Rams put on the field this season too, and also rather have Marshall than EJ Manuel, Vick, or Matt Simms.

That's pretty interesting. However, and I'm no fan of Mike Vick, but NM does not have that kind of athleticism. He's a dynamic playmaker, but Vick was off the charts with what he could do (but as shown by the stats, he could never translate that into max production).
Also, Vick wasn't the first athletic QB in the draft obviously, but he was nonetheless an experiment for a lot of QBs who have followed. The fact that he achieved only marginal success in the NFL will likely hinder the Nick Marshalls of the NCAA going forward.

None of those other guys played another position in college, did they? Marshall at least has one year at DB in college under his belt to advance that cause, I guess.
