Well my 298 number came from this site and it was dated 2/25/11, so if they're wrong they're wrong. But still the point remains even at 291 lbs running a 4.82/40 is pretty damn impressive.

Auburn DT Nick Fairley, potentially the No. 1 overall pick, is surprisingly small. Listed at 6-5 and 300 pounds, Fairley checked in at 6-3 and 291 officially.
yeah, you're splitting hairs. Fairley is 291 running a 4.82
He's 5 inches taller and about 70 lbs heavier than Mark Ingram. But if they race each other, Ingram would only beat fairley by one step.

btw.. Dareus is 28 lbs heavier than Fairley and he ran a 4.94 and 4.92. Both are pretty damn good times

We're only taling about 2 tenths of a second. I guarantee you if they ran the 40 right beside each other, Ingram would only be a step ahead of fairley.

So I guess he would be only two steps behind Julio? For that matter he would only be 3 or 4 steps behind Carl Lewis.

If Ingram's legs reached 4ft for each step then yeah.

I'm assuming you've never ran the 40 or dont realize the amount of time 2 tenths of a second is.
If i told you to snap your fingers two times in a row as fast as you could, the two snaps would be more that 2 tenths of a second apart.

Things are pretty bang-bang with the 40 time because some guys are getting up to 20+ MPH but I still think the discrepancy between Ingram and Fairley would be more than a step.

Assuming that speed is constant. I know that it isn't but it makes the math easier.
A 4.6 40 yard dash would give Ingram a speed of approximately 8.7 yards per second. A 4.82 40 yard dash for Fairley would give him a rate of approximately 8.3 yards per second. So each second Ingram gains .4 yards on Fairley. In the 4.6 seconds that it took Ingram to complete the 40 yard dash, Fairley would cover 38.17 yards. So he would finish 1.83 yards behind Ingram, or 5.61 feet behind Ingram.

Yeah, that is a good time as well. These guys are beasts. Suh ran a 5.03 at 307 lbs for comparison.
