I would just like to interject here............
Chubb had a 83 yard TD run down 38-3 in the 4th qtr of that game. Outside of that run he ran 19 times for 63 yards.

Seriously? Payne had 66 more yards on 100 more carries!
Chubb had 14 TD and Payne had 13.
How was Payne the better back?

You still had 9 of the 11 starters in. Had you emptied the bench I could see your point.

I'm not saying it shouldn't count but come on. It was 5 TD game with 10 minutes left. It's context that should be included in this type of discussion, especially when directly comparing it to the other guys performance against Alabama.

He looked and saw Artis-Payne had the most yards. He out gained Chubb by 66 yards while carrying the ball 80 or 90 more times. Chubb had almost 2 yards a carry better....had 14 TD to Artis-Paynes 13....Chubb was better in almost every single category in 2014.

Sure. And that's fair. I wouldn't have called it a stellar game for Chubb by any means, but we generally struggled to do anything right that day. Even if we discount his largest run, it was still more yards on fewer carries, albeit not by a huge margin... 3.3 YPC vs. 2.1... 57% higher output per carry.

Agreed, all things considered (weather, our defense, UGA's abysmal QB situation) he had an above average day without the late run.
I don't remember all the specifics but I do remember the fact that we did not stonewall him for nothing very often.

Yeah... that game turned so quickly too. Looking back, it's pretty clear that we were never going to win it, but the score got lopsided in a hurry. The weather just made it even less fun.

Once we blocked the punt and then got the Brice Ramsey special the house kind of caved in.

I understand that but to me it doesn't take away from the run since you had most of the starters in. And judging from the way UGA plays I doubt Bama players were let up even if it was garbage time.

Even if UGA is to continue the success we've had this season and wind up in Atlanta at the end of the season, this is probably the thing I'm most worried about. Not specifically punts, but just turnovers in general... Alabama seems to have made a habit out of really penalizing teams for turnovers and short fields... The avg starting field differential for you guys this season (one of the S&P+ metrics) is just ludicrous.
Can't afford to do you guys any favors on field position for sure.

Yep, it's really hard to beat us if you can't get lots of explosive plays, because our defense, kick coverage and punting game ensure that the majority of the time the opponent will be left with a long field (which leads to, as you noted, our very high field position ranking in S&P+). On top of that, we don't turn the ball over much.
It's probably the part of our program over the last 3 years that has improved the most that most people don't really talk about. We used to routinely give up lots of field position on kick coverage. That never happens anymore. It's a huge deal.

Also - big fan of that chart format and breakout. I'm guessing you post those on the UGA board but you should throw those up over here too. Like it a lot.

He wasnt close to as good as Chubb was.
