13. Gus Malzahn, Auburn (10)

21. Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss (31)

22. Bret Bielema, Arkansas (18)

Until Malzahn completely drops Auburn's program off the map, and until Freeze and/or Beilema win a significant trophy, I have no issue with this order.

The bottom line is Malzahn won a National Championship for Auburn as an offensive coordinator, and then took them back to the National Title Game, an SEC Title, and a #2 finish as a head coach. He's taken Auburn to 3 bowl games in 3 years since he came back to Auburn.

Meanwhile Bielema is heralded for his "success" of 7 win seasons. Not sure if Bert should even be in the Top 25.

Freeze (if OM hadn't been cheating) should probably be higher.... but since we know they've likely cheated their butts off, this ranking also seems about right. We're still waiting on even a Divisional Championship for Ole Miss. I'm not sure Freeze can move into the Top 20 if he can't at least win the West once.

The fact that gus bus is ranked at all makes this a joke

Again, if this were a ranking of "Best Head Coaches of 2015" then yes, Gus should not make the Top 50. Sure, you can't ignore how dreadful last season went for Auburn, but at the same time you can't just ignore the fact that he's taken Auburn to 3 bowl games in 3 years. He has won an SEC Title. And he's played for a National Title.

Basically he had one great year at Auburn... one bad year at Auburn... and one semi-good year where his team finished in the Top 25.

I'm not sure Sumlin, Beilema, Mullen, or even Freeze can boast those credentials at this point.

I agree with this.

I would bet with the exception of Les Miles at LSU, every other SEC coach inherited a team coming off of a losing year. Obviously, Kirby is also in a situation in which he inherited a team with a winning record, but he has not had a chance to coach at Georgia yet.

That guess is off the top of my head, but I feel certain the vast majority inherited a situation similar to Arkansas' when Bert was hired. I mean Bielema did take over a team coming off a 4-8 season... but the Hogs were also 11-2 and 10-3 in the two seasons before that. Actually, now that I think of it, how is that much different than the situation Malzahn inherited at Auburn?

The difference between Malzhan and the BB situation was that Malzahn recruited most of the offensive players that Auburn had. Considering Malzhan was only gone for 1 year as OC before he came back as head coach. The players he "inherited" were already recruited to run his system by Malzhan and already had knowledge of his system. Thus there was not much of an adjustment on offense for Auburn.

Not that hard...

Gladly Gnashrebel. How can a coach who inherited a shite show like Muscramp left and takes that team to a 10 win season and an East title not be ranked in the top 25? List is shite!

Malzhan should still get a pass given the amazing turn around between 2012 and 2013 but giving him credit for his turn as AU's OC is a stretch. I mean Ted Roof deserves just as much credit.

Sorry you're mad that Mullen wasn't included.

See I knew this would be the response. I mean my feelings are so hurt but let's be real here. He's had some good games but for every miracle ole miss play or LSU thrashing, he's pulled a Toledo or Rutgers. How many times has he choked away the A&M game? For every good win there is a choke job.

Kind of a crap list.

SEC:

Bielema improves from 7-6, to 8-5, is -4 in rankings.

Freeze improves from 9-4, to 10-3, is +10 in rankings.

Richt holds at 10-3 both years, is -11 in rankings.

Malzahn drops from 8-5, to 7-6, is -3 in rankings.

Miles improves from 8-5, to 9-3, is -3 in rankings.

Saban improves from 12-1, to 14-1, stays at number one. No where to go but down.

There were 6 coaches who improved their teams records by 1 game. 4 of those coaches moved up by an average of 7.25 points. Bielema went down 4, Miles went down 3.

There were 8 coaches who lost one more game last year than the year before. They averaged dropping 1.14 positions, yet Bielema and Miles improved by 1 in the SEC West, and dropped an average of 3.5

Like I said, crap list.

That ranking is based on his success at Wisconsin plus his progress here. He inherited a dumpster fire and has turned the program around. Sorry you're dumb.

We went from 0 SEC wins to 5 SEC wins in three years. What would you define as turning it around?

And in spite of a failed attempt to displace him, Miles is still a quiet second in the SEC. Guess averaging over 10 wins a season does count with some folks.

Tell your own fans that averaging 10 wins a season should be a source of pride in the SEC.

Gus has performed worse each successive year he's coached. The guy is an overrated clown.
