Take 85 all the way. Don't get on 316 and then cut south through Jefferson

Getting off at Jefferson and driving down will add like 30ish minutes onto the trip. I realize that taking 85 lets you go fast, but I personally don't think it's worth it to add that many more miles.

78 or 316 are the only 2 viable options IMO.

Although the bridge is done, traffic on 316 is still being routed up the ramps and you have to deal with traffic lights there.
Collins Hill is completely open now, but 20 has to be a mess in the afternoons. I completely avoid it.

85 all the way until Jefferson is a little longer, but less congested, so may be worth it.

Probably 99% of the time I've ever driven to Athens it's been via 78. Nice easy little drive.

Is that Memorial Drive out to Stone Mountain?

Thanks to all for the info. I will make sure we leave two hours in advance. My son is really interested in UGA. I am not sure why but I don't have any issues with it (assuming scholarship money is offered). We are visiting Vanderbilt the day before and he wants to check out Texas A&M, too. I might have more fun than him getting to see so many SEC schools and cities. Good times.

Memorial Drive eventually empties out onto 78 by Stone Mountain.

Think of US-78 as this: North Avenue/Ponce de Leon, to Scott Boulevard/to Stone Mountain HWY

He may fall in love with Nashville...or you may.

I wouldn't leave mid-day. I would leave Atlanta before lunch and eat in Athens. Plenty of good restaurants there and you avoid the worst of the Atlanta traffic.

Yeah. Ponce/Memorial/stone mountain whatever...it has a few names. But yeah 78, straight shot.

You could get on 78 at the varsity parking lot and not make another turn until you're about 5 miles from UGA's campus.

We lived there for a few years. We really liked it but I am not sure if that is enough of a draw for him to choose Vandy (assuming he gets accepted). If I had the chance, I would move my family back to Nashville in an instant. It's not in the cards at this time, though.

How about that.

Ill prob grab 285 on the southside and just come around but i think that will be our route.

Have you ever been to Athens?

What day/time are you planning on being in Atlanta? 78 is a fine route unless you go at a sucky time.

Ehhh, not true. You're one block south from Ponce , which is what you have to be on for that to be true. But North Ave is coded as US78

But it has been 15 years since my last game(AU 99)

Im gonna try and get a flight that lands about 11-12 so we can the hell out of town before it gets bad.

You sure?

I know when we've gone from snellville to ATL for the tech game, we get on 78 and literally dead end into the varsity parking lot/spring street without making any turns.
