The NIT was a bigger deal than the NCAA in the 1950's and was a very relevant tourney even into the 1970's.

I still like it and MSG is "kind of a big deal"

LSU: Lost as a 4 seed.

Which year was that? Don't remember that one.

You should, that team was brought up a lot this year thanks to the crapfest we watched from the 2015-16 LSU squad.

1990-91. Chris Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal, Stanley Roberts.

Lost to 5 seed Georgia Tech who had three future NBA starters and they went to the Final Four.

I could have sworn that we were the 5 and they were the 4 that year. We beat Nova in the first round. How could a Big East at-large be seeded 13th? The lowest you ever see a power conference at-large team is usually 11th or 12th isn't it?

Syracuse won the national championship in 2003. Four of the six opponents defeated along the way were Big XII teams.

Nolan Richardson is the only coach in history to win an NCAA National Championship, the NIT, and a NJCAA National Championship (junior college)

I knew I was right. LSU was the 5 seed and Ga. Tech was the 4 in that tournament.

LINK

By the way, the year LSU lost in the first round as a 4 seed was 1985 to David Robinson and Navy.
