Beginning to think this course doesn't match up well with Bama. They will qualify, but it will be hard to win it unless they figure this course out.
They (Alabama) just couldn't get putts to drop. Especially Shelton, who had a good amount of opportunities. If one of his lip-outs drops, he's in the playoff right now.

Do you know how this was determined?

Cumulative scores of those golfers that were not used for the team scoring. Both finished at +11. Second tie breaker starts from the worst of those scores. Bama had +8, LSU had a +9

I'm not sure but they did mention that earlier. Bama and LSU set to meet up in the semifinals if they take care of business tomorrow.

I believe that the quarterfinals and semifinals are tomorrow?

I guess they will play both the quarters and the semis tomorrow to make up for being a day behind schedule due to the weather. That's a lot of golf in one day for the teams that advance.

Pretty sure they always play two matches on the first day...

Two full rounds in one day is still a lot. They may not get too tired physically, but mentally, that has to be exhausting.

Happens in the US Am, Ryder Cup, and a number of match play events as well. They're used to it.
It's the 6 straight days that's the killer.

It's especially trying, mentally, if you don't get off to the best start. These days, almost all the players are in pretty good physical shape, but the mental part is the big bugaboo.

Stanford gets to play the 9th ranked team the the winner of the 4 vs 5 matchup which is the number 2 team in the nation vs the number 4 team, a very tough path.
Bama gets the 28th ranked team SMU and the winner of the 16th ranked team ( LSU ) and the 21st ranked team ( UCLA )
Advantage Bama.
As for Bama being 4 over today, I think that was mainly tactical by our great coach, he knew the only way we could finish out side the top 8 was to have 3 or 4 bad, bad numbers on one hole, so I don't think the strategy called onus to GO FOR IT on many occasions, especially if it was dangerous to do so, smart coaching, we just played mostly safe.
Match play is totally different.

If I'm reading the leaderboard correctly...
Alabama and SMU are tied at the 4-7 mark.
LSU is down by 2 to UCLA at the same mark.
Stanford is down by 2 to Illinois.
Okie State is up by 4 to GA Tech.

Bama looks to be in good shape.
Whitsett 5 up thru 8
Wyat 3 up thru 11
Lovelady 2 down thru 9
Shelton 1 down thru 10
Mulinax all square thru 8
We more than likely just need to wine one of the bottom 3 matches.
4 of our guys bogeyed the first hole.
