Alabama, UAH, and Auburn have aerospace engineering. Lots of jobs in Huntsville. My roommate at Alabama was an aerospace grad. He works for NASA now. His brother as well.

Pretty sure this is the reason. While I know AU has a great engineering program, I don't know what all programs they focus on. Wasn't my major. I think I read that outside of the air force academy and places like MIT, they have the most astronauts or something. I'm sure it can be googled, but I'm not feeling energetic at the moment.
