What is a "Texas Whiskey"? Is it similar to a Bourbon?

It is a bourbon, technically. Just made in Texas.

My order of preference is Scotch, Irish Whiskey, then Bourbon. (Of course, sometimes you just want a change of taste).
Have you tried Four Roses small batch? For the money, I haven't tasted a better Bourbon. Then again, I'm not an expert - if I am paying more than $30 for a Bourbon, I'm moving to the single malt Scotch.

I'll check that one out. My favorite small batch bourbon is Sam Houston small batch

Well, this thread developed nicely. Gentlemen drink whiskey and show mutual respect. Children drink whatever alcohol is available and measure their peckers by their football team.
I'm off to work.

There is no "technically" about it. It's bourbon.
Criteria to be bourbon:
1. Produced in the United States (arguable whether Texas is in the United States, and certainly not for long)
2. made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn
3. aged in new, charred-oak barrels
4. distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume)
5. entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume)and
6. be bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume)
It's bourbon. The only reason it will not continue to be bourbon is Texas' inevitable second secession from the United States.

How does it stack up to Blanton's? That's my new favorite. (Even though I drank a whole bottle leading up to and during the Iron Bowl I still love it)

I have never had either. I just like to argue, and stuff.

It's going to be a loooong off season.

Rebecca Creek and Deep Eddy's are both great.

If RC is the one that I had at the LSU/aTm game in 2012, and I think it is based on the bottle, its sweet almost on the level of Crown.
It's also only very loosely "made in Texas" anyway. It's decent enough though.

Seattle could have won that game with 10.

RC is good whiskey. Had several my last trip to the Mexiplex.

Excellent choice. RC is awesome (and owned/created by an Aggie)
Will have to check out.
My old man moved to the SA metro recently so I'll have to visit their distillery on my next trip to the Alamo City.
He often sends me Hill Country wine (I forget which vineyard) but I live less than an hour from world class vineyards so I'm a little bit of a snob in that regard. Lately I've been savoring $50+ bottles of Scotch or Irish whiskey as it's rare we can escape the house with a 3 year old and I don't feel much like getting shitcanned anymore.
Had some fantastic brandy made from Oregon pinot noir a couple of weeks ago.

Such a sad position to take. You can argue technical issues all day but unless they start importing KY spring water to make it, it is not bourbon. The water is a key issue.

Bourbon Requirements
If that's the case, Jack Daniels (most popular bourbon whiskey in the world) does not meet the regulatory standards of "bourbon."
Just sayin'....
